The developers behind Marvel’s Wolverine and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Insomniac Games, recently became the victim of some lethal leaks as part of a greater attack on Sony. These leaks were carried out by the ransomware group called Rhysida, who leaked and then threatened Insomniac to pay up within seven days.

When the company failed to do so, they revealed the leaks in the form of a document, which constrained detailed plans for future games, canceled games, and even a playable version of Marvel’s Wolverine that’s now up on the internet. However, Insomniac Games has been silent on the entire matter since the leaks took place, apart from random comments from the developers’ personal accounts.

Insomniac Games has now addressed the issue in a statement, calling the entire situation “extremely distressing.” They also claimed that this does not put a dent in their plans, saying that the development of Marvel’s Wolverine will go on as it was initially planned. The statement mainly focused on Marvel’s Wolverine rather than other specifics of the leaks, like the Spider-Man games, upcoming games, etc.

In the statement, Insomniac Games says, "We're both saddened and angered about the recent criminal cyberattack on our studio and the emotional toll it's taken on our dev team. We have focused inwardly for the last several days to support each other." The Marvel’s Wolverine developer discussed how the situation feels different than the occasional leaks that take place regarding launch dates and information about other games aside from just Insomniac Games.

On top of the details that were leaked regarding the studio’s games, personal information of employees and other people involved with the company was also taken and leaked online along with the game leaks. Insomniac Games continued:

We are aware that the stolen data includes personal information belonging to our employees, former employees, and independent contractors. It also includes early development details about Marvel's Wolverine for PlayStation 5. We continue working quickly to determine what data was impacted.

The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 developer also lightly talked about how many people have seen (and possibly played) Marvel’s Wolverine already. From looking at the footage, it was clear that the game was under development, although few people might not think so. However, it can be seen that the game is a long way away from getting released. Insomniac Games said:

However, like Logan...Insomniac is resilient. Marvel's Wolverine continues as planned. The game is in early production and will no doubt greatly evolve throughout development, as do all our plans. While we appreciate everyone's enthusiasm, we will share official information about Marvel's Wolverine when the time is right.

Although a playable version of the game is currently making rounds on the internet, it’s advised that fans do not search for it since notices are being sent out by ISPs about downloading the leaked build. Anyway, it’s better to wait for the original thing than play something illegal.

When might Marvel’s Wolverine come out?

Unfortunately, Insomniac Games hasn’t officially revealed any details about the upcoming game, which is why many fans jumped on leaks as soon as they were revealed. However, when devs keep information to themselves, our only source is leaks. Initially, an artist claimed to be working on the game teased that the game has been reportedly scheduled to come out in 2024.

However, another insider claims that Marvel’s Wolverine might be released on PlayStation 5 in 2025. This latest and massive Insomniac Games leak suggests that the upcoming highly anticipated game is scheduled to come out in 2026, which is far from now. However, Insomniac has proven time and time again that although the wait is long, it surely delivers quality content!
