The ransomware group that hacked Marvel’s Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games and threatened to reveal confidential data, demanding around $2 million as ransom within seven days, have fulfilled their threat. As it turns out, their hack wasn’t a bluff since they recently revealed crucial information after Sony refused to meet their demands.
As per Cyber Daily, the group called Rhysida released 1.67 terabytes of data, which is made up of over 1.3 million files containing a wide range of pictures and videos of Insomniac’s upcoming game Marvel’s Wolverine, and personal staff details. Not only this, but it also includes a signed contract between Sony and Marvel for future projects.
Numerous videos featuring early Wolverine footage and unannounced characters are now on the internet, along with the plot, scheduled release date, an entire list of locations, and the game’s cast. Not only this, but Insomniac’s entire release schedule till the end of 2033 is also now online as estimated development budgets. The data also allegedly features a bootable build of Wolverine.
When the hacking news first came out, Sony released an official statement claiming that it had begun an investigation, further confirming that none of the other Sony divisions were affected. However, neither Sony nor Insomniac Games have officially said anything regarding their material leaking online. Cyber Daily issued a statement attributing to a Rhysida spokesperson, which read:
What Insomniac Games data was leaked?
Following the warning that went online a week ago that Marvel’s Wolverine leaks might start coming out, it looks like the worst has happened. Some of the upcoming Insomniac games are Marvel’s Venom (2025), Marvel’s Wolverine (2026), Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 (2028), a brand-new Ratchet & Clank (2029), Marvel’s X-Men (2030), and an untitled IP game releasing in 2031/2032.
One other slide featured an extended roadmap, including several X-Men games and another new IP game that will be released in 2035. The X-Men license terms are quite detailed, suggesting that $120 million was set aside as its development budget for each game and $30 million saved for its marketing.
It looks like Venom plays the same role in Spider-Man 2 as Miles Morales played for Marvel’s Spider-Man, meaning that it offers 8-10 hours worth of standalone experience. Moreover, a Q2 launch window was mentioned, along with a $49.99 price. Lastly, a slide suggests that Spider-Man 3 might come out in two parts, with part one set to launch in the holiday of 2027 and part 2 set for 2029.
The game’s multiplayer mode will reportedly launch with part one and a “combo” scheduled for 2029. However, these plans surely are subject to date and haven’t been officially confirmed yet.
