Hexed Trailer Introduces Hailee Steinfeld as a Teen Witch Bound for the World of Hexe

A teen witch, a three-eyed cat, and a sinister queen await in Disney's Hexed this Thanksgiving.

A new Disney heroine is about to discover that suburbia was never the whole story. Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the official trailer for Hexed, its upcoming animated fantasy film, offering the fullest look yet at a magical world where witches are not the villains — they are the entire civilization.

Disney unveiled the trailer for Hexed on Monday, and it wastes no time setting up the stakes. Billie Doe, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, is an impulsive and unconventional teenage girl who discovers secret magical abilities — powers that, once unleashed, hurtle her out of suburbia and into Hexe, a vast witch realm filled with spectacle. Forced to team up with her cautious mother Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, Billie uncovers family mysteries that could change the world of witches forever.

The trailer reveals why Billie's powers stayed hidden for so long. Her mother Alice affixed her wrist with a purple gem that blocks her magic, a desperate measure to keep her daughter safe. But when Billie accidentally opens a portal to Hexe, the gem's protection is no longer enough — and Alice has no choice but to follow her daughter into the witch realm. There is clearly more to the family's history than either of them has admitted.

Waiting for them in Hexe is Beef Roger Crummchuk, a reclusive, magical three-eyed cat voiced by Walton Goggins. First revealed during Disney's D23 Expo in September, Beef becomes Billie's reluctant mentor, helping her master abilities she never knew she had — even if the lessons get messy along the way. As Goggins narrates in the trailer: "It was foretold that an ordinary girl would become an extraordinary witch and save the world of magic from evil." Billie might just be that girl.

Not everyone in Hexe is happy to see her. Two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster voices Queen Celeste, a sinister figure who wants the new arrival captured and will stop at nothing to maintain her power over the witch realm in perpetuity. The trailer frames Celeste as the force hunting Billie through Hexe's magical streets, turning what begins as a fish-out-of-water adventure into a genuine threat.

The footage also makes clever use of Paramore's Ain't It Fun, a needle drop that underscores Billie's chaotic energy as she stumbles through a world where everyone around her has been practicing magic for years. The animation leans into the visual language of classic Disney fantasy — glowing portals, towering spires, and spell effects that fill the screen — while the story's central hook, a witch as protagonist rather than villain, sets Hexed apart from the studio's long history of wicked stepmothers and sea witches.
