October is a challenging month for fans of the Grand Theft Auto series because of how hopeful this month is regarding the announcement of GTA 6. There have been many signs from Rockstar Games hinting that this will be the month when they announce the game we have all been waiting for so desperately. Some fans have even gone as far as comparing an in-game image of the moon with the real one to see if they can find something.
With all of this speculation and fans observing every move that Rockstar Games makes, it is imminent that fans will finally catch something. This time, it looks like they have found something hidden inside the Rockstar Games’ website code.
Fan Spots Odd Names Appearing On Rockstar Games’ Website
One person on Reddit who goes by the name slaik22 was particularly excited about the expected reveal of GTA 6, and he went digging on the developers’ official website and took a deep dive into its code. He shared some interesting finds from this journey, particularly some new words that seemed familiar.
He said on Reddit, “Over the course of a year, I periodically checked the site for updates in the code and today in the CSS-styles I noticed a picture with the unusual name GTA_CITY_STORIES. It didn't exist before. What do you think this could mean?”
This immediately led to fans creating theories about GTA 6 and how Rockstar is hinting that the game will take place back in Vice City since the name “GTA City Stories” closely resembles GTA Vice City Stories, a game Rockstar released back in 2006. Comments such as, “Seeing updates on web is always a good thing, they are definitely cooking some stuff,” and “Let them cook” directly follow the post, suggesting that Rockstar might be up to something big.
However, many fans took a different approach to this news, saying that this isn’t related to GTA 6 and that to hope such a thing is just wishful thinking. A comment read, “not sure what coding talk means, but gta city stories doesn’t sound like it has anything to do with VI, just wishful thinking.”
Fans’s bubbles of hope were later popped when the author of this post, slaik22, gave an update where he said that this change to the website’s code was indeed not related to GTA 6 but was “apparently needed to fix a certain bug.” He stated, “As I found out, this class is used for an array of elements "libertycitystories" and "vicecitystories" and is apparently needed to fix a certain bug…Sorry for disturbing. But I hope that someone didn’t know about gta_gen9.”
This is certainly one of many disappointments Grand Theft Auto fans have had to face regarding GTA 6 this month. We hope that Rockstar Games officially announces the game soon so everyone can finally get a glimpse at the next generation of GTA.
