While Rockstar Games hasn’t yet revealed anything official regarding their upcoming much-anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 game, we just found out something exciting. Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has patented brand-new locomotive technology in GTA 6 to make sure the game features "highly dynamic and realistic animations."

Reddit user, Tobbelobben30 claimed that he went through the GTA 6 leaks when he came across the name Tobias Kleanthous. After some digging, the user discovered that Kleanthous used to work at the Rockstar Games company between the years 2014 and late 2021, during which he had a specialization in AI, gameplay, and animation.

Not only this, but Kleanthous is also the author and lead inventor of a patent known as System and Method for Virtual Character Locomotion. On their LinkedIn profile, they have described it as "regarding animated locomotion control based on some of the core technology," which is a system they apparently created and used at Rockstar Games.

After reading the entire patent before it was removed from the internet, the Reddit user claims that according to the patent, the developers are using a “clever system.” As it turns out, Rockstar has developed a whole library of small building blocks for character movements. Moreover, these blocks can be merged in several different ways in order to create various animations. Tobbelobben30 said:

"For instance, think about a character in the game walking in the rain, feeling tired, or getting injured. Instead of designing separate animations for each of these situations, they use these building blocks to put together the character's movements naturally."

The user further shares that he thinks the upcoming GTA 6 might feature much more “diverse and lifelike animations.” If this turns out to be true, players will see characters moving in ways that match their injuries, their energy level, and the weather. This would make Grand Theft Auto 6 feel a lot more immersive.

Tobbelobben30 said, “It's like having characters that can adapt to different situations, making the game world feel more real and thrilling.” While this hasn’t been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games, we can’t help but imagine what it would be like if this news does turn out to be true. However, we do wish the game gets released soon, and we see all of this soon in GTA 6!
