But as this also marks the conclusion of the two-cour anime, many wonder if the series will continue with a second season. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End finale reveals the mages who have passed the First Class Mage Exam. Aside from Fern, Denken, Ubel, Land, Wirbel, and Methode also pass, making Serie apologize to Sense after realizing the group of mages this year are “particularly talented.” As the ones who fail lament their lack of success, others celebrate their victory.
They all plan their next move, with Denken wanting to be like Frieren, a mage leading a party of heroes. Everyone is ready to part ways, and Frieren declares it’s time to leave Auberst, making her way out with Fern and Stark by her side. Sure, Frieren fails the exam, but she’s proud of Fern for receiving a new spell that makes clothes clean and spotless and for being her apprentice.
But before the episode ends, a flashback scene of Frieren’s original party is revealed, with Himmel mentioning the finale’s title. “It will be embarrassing when we meet again,” he says. The post-credits scene shows Frieren saying the same, making Stark and Fern wonder what she means. From there, the words “The journey to Ende continues” flash on the screen, hinting at their journey’s continuation in Frieren: Beyond Journey End Season 2. To add more fuel to the fire, the anime’s X (formerly Twitter) account shares an image of Frieren holding her bag with the same caption, “The Journey to Ende continues.”
What is Ende in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End?
In Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Ende is known as a region located in the northernmost part of the continent. It’s where the Demon King’s Castle can be found and is also the alleged location of Aureole, a place regarded as heaven or the afterlife where souls go. Thus, it’s called Ende, a German word for “end” or “finish.”
Aureole is a place where anyone can meet the souls of the dead. It’s part of Flamme’s note, revealing she visits Aureole to speak with her old comrades. Hence, it has been Frieren’s goal to travel to Aureole to reunite with Himmel. And being regarded as heaven, it’s assumed that the Goddess of Creation lives there.
What to Expect from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2
If Frieren: Beyond Journey Ends Season 2 happens, Frieren, Fern, and Stark may continue their journey to Ende. In fact, it has been the whole point of Frieren and Fern taking the First Class Mage Exams, as nobody is allowed to go there without being accompanied by a First Class mage due to being inhabited by many demons.
So, as Fern passes and becomes a first-class mage, the three can continue their journey to the north to meet the souls of their dearly departed. Aside from Himmel, Fern and Stark may also want to meet their previous masters, Eisen and Heiter.
