Epic Games is injecting the Star Wars universe directly into Fortnite with a bold new lineup of official modes created using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). These experiences go beyond simple skins and emotes, delivering full-fledged gameplay loops complete with authentic weapons, environments, music, and characters from the saga. Before we dive into the details of three of the new Star Wars modes, here's the new trailer for the epic crossover:

Fortnite players can look forward to diverse experiences that capture the essence of the Star Wars universe, from large-scale conflicts to tense pursuits and economic building challenges. These modes highlight the versatility of UEFN tools, enabling developers to design immersive environments complete with authentic visuals, sounds, and mechanics inspired directly by the saga.

Today, Gamespot revealed extensive hands-on details about the modes ahead of their launch.

Galactic Siege

Galactic Siege stands out as a team-based deathmatch mode inspired by classic Star Wars Battlefront gameplay, featuring capture points across multiple maps. Players engage in strategic battles where controlling objectives unlocks powerful abilities such as airstrikes, NPC reinforcements, or even lightsaber duels with Force powers. At launch, the mode includes two maps with plans for additional ones soon after, providing variety uncommon in typical Fortnite custom islands. This setup encourages repeated playthroughs as teams vie for dominance in expansive battle arenas filled with Star Wars lore elements.

The mode restricts player characters to Rebel Troopers or Imperial Stormtroopers to maintain immersion, a deliberate choice by its creators. Chad Mustard, COO of Jogo, the studio behind Galactic Siege, explained the decision: "We just came to a decision that to really feel immersed in the Star Wars universe, it's hard to do that when it's not a Star Wars skin, right? I think players won't mind that at all, because they're in a Star Wars experience, and they want to feel immersed in that with the music and the visuals." Despite the restriction, players can earn Beskar currency within the mode to unlock exclusive cosmetics that enhance the Star Wars feel without impacting the broader Fortnite ecosystem. Technical limits like memory caps pose challenges for ongoing expansions, but the foundation suggests strong potential for evolution into a more robust standalone experience over time.

Escape Vader

Escape Vader delivers a survival horror twist set aboard a derelict Star Destroyer, where small teams of Rebel scavengers must navigate dangers while evading the iconic Sith Lord. Players collect essential equipment to complete objectives, but failure looms if lives run out before escape, creating high-stakes tension throughout the session. Mechanics allow temporary delays to Darth Vader through environmental interactions like exploding pipes or distracting shots, though direct defeat remains impossible, emphasizing evasion and coordination over combat prowess.

The mode captures the atmospheric dread of being hunted in a massive, dimly lit vessel filled with Star Wars details. While lacking advanced stealth systems, it relies on movement, noise management, and teamwork to build suspense, making each run a dramatic test of nerves. As a more focused experience, Escape Vader serves as an engaging diversion that showcases UEFN's ability to adapt horror elements into the Fortnite framework, potentially paving the way for refined future iterations with deeper mechanics and expanded ship layouts.

Droid Tycoon

Droid Tycoon introduces a competitive building simulation where players construct and optimize droid-powered factories to generate resources and expand operations rapidly. This tycoon-style format involves racing against others to scale production, purchasing more droids for labor, and investing earnings into upgrades that accelerate growth in a loop reminiscent of idle management games. The Star Wars theme integrates seamlessly through droid designs and factory aesthetics drawn from the franchise, adding visual appeal to the progression systems.

Social and grinding aspects make Droid Tycoon particularly accessible for group play, allowing friends to collaborate or compete while advancing broader Fortnite goals like battle pass challenges. Its straightforward yet addictive gameplay loop appeals to a wide audience seeking lighter, creative sessions amid more intense modes. By leveraging familiar tycoon conventions within the Star Wars setting, the map demonstrates how UEFN supports diverse genres beyond traditional shooters, offering satisfying progression for players who enjoy management and optimization.

These new Star Wars modes represent a significant step in Fortnite's evolution as a platform for cross-franchise creativity, blending official assets with community innovation to deliver fresh content. From large-scale battles in Galactic Siege to the pursuit thrills of Escape Vader and the building frenzy in Droid Tycoon, players will find options suited to different playstyles. The integration highlights Epic Games' commitment to expanding UEFN capabilities with major properties, fostering an ecosystem where hundreds of additional Star Wars creations are expected to emerge quickly.
