Square Enix is at last ending the unknown journey of the remake project with Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The game arrives on April 8, 2027 as the finale to the remake trilogy based on the popular 1997 RPG. More than a decade after the 2015 Sony E3 showcase first teased this remake path, the third chapter is built as a full send-off for Cloud and the rest of the Midgar crew after the lessons of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi appeared during today's State of Play to unveil more than ten minutes of gameplay and confirm the schedule. Combat expands through the Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear system, or FITS, which lets party members wear specialized uniforms that change both move sets and appearance. Four FITS exist in Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner roles, with Cid shown in Knight gear and Vincent in Summoner gear.

The Highwind airship serves as a customizable base of operations and lets the party fly across a vast open world realized at a larger scale than prior entries. Players can also fast-forward through cutscenes so they can move through story sequences at their own pace. Exploration continues on the ground with the chocobo Piko, who now acts as both a mount and a combat ally that grows stronger beside the party.

Players can switch between party members at will while moving through the open world, which changes how quests and small story beats play out depending on who leads. Certain characters also receive dedicated quest lines tied to that choice. A grappling gun further upgrades city traversal by letting the party scale rooftops and cross urban spaces quickly.

Queen's Blood returns with a new saga focused on Red XIII, complete with opponents who can shift the flow of matches and fresh strategic challenges. Players who follow that campaign will face unique card-game scenarios that expand the minigame beyond what appeared in earlier remake entries. Pre-orders are live on PlayStation Store, and every edition includes the Mecha-Chocobo & Moogle Summon Materia as a bonus.

The Premium Edition bundles the main game with a Story Expansion Pass, 24-hour early access, the Reclaimant Choker accessory, and a set of consumable items for the opening hours. That Story Expansion Pass will add two story-centered DLC packs, with further information coming later. The Premium Plus Edition adds a digital art book, a digital mini soundtrack, Polydroid Alexander Summon Materia, Nymphwing Bracelet armor, and the Risk Taker’s Choker.

What to Expect in Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Square Enix first showed the remake trilogy’s closing chapter at Summer Game Fest earlier this year and attached the subtitle Revelation to the project. That initial trailer offered only a short glimpse of incoming systems and faces. The full roster arrives here, bringing Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind into the active party while the Highwind becomes the vehicle for crossing the open map.

New regions sit alongside familiar ground from Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Hamaguchi has already stated the third game will avoid the same volume of extra material that filled the second chapter. A later Gamescom Opening Night Live trailer highlighted the Weapons, enormous superbosses built to deliver some of the hardest battles in the entire remake project.

Hamaguchi has also made clear that the studio is not rewriting its ending in response to comments from players. The team has held the same outline for the trilogy since work began, and that outline has not shifted. What the outline actually contains is still unknown, because the first two games already altered beats from the 1997 original and left open whether Cloud and his allies can redirect their destinies.
