A brand new story will be featured in the upcoming Dragon Ball Daima anime series that will not be based on the popular manga series by the late creator Akira Toriyama and artist Toyotarou, but Toriyama is still involved in bringing the brand new story to life. The executive producer behind the new anime has revealed how much work Toriyama has done on the upcoming anime.
Dragon Ball Daima was officially announced at New York Comic Con 2023 as a new anime series that will be released in celebration of the 40th anniversary. The trailer revealed that it will feature Goku turning into a kid again, just like what happened to him in the non-canon Dragon Ball GT series, but it's not just Goku being transformed, his friends will also be turned into their younger selves.
Now, fans are wondering how much the late creator was able to work on developing Dragon Ball Daima. Akio Iyoku, the executive producer of the new anime, revealed that Toriyama was able to have quite a bit of input. Speaking to Mantan Web, Iyoku said that Toriyama "made the whole story and was involved with character design like never before. He also has a hand in designing the machinery."
At last year's New York Comic-Con, Toriyama shared a comment about Dragon Ball Daima when the new anime was announced: "I'm currently working on a new Dragon Ball. The title is Dragon Ball Daima. Daima is a made-up term... [which] in English would be something like Evil. Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they'll head off to a new world! It's a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world".
