Deadpool & Wolverine features a plethora of surprises and twists that make a lot of viewers’ jaws drop. Aside from the numerous shocking cameos, it sees a low-key appearance of a major Marvel character, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), seemingly spoiling the two upcoming Avengers movies, Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars. Aside from seemingly teasing Deadpool’s (Ryan Reynolds) future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it also appears to set the stage for Secret Wars.

When Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen) summons Deadpool to the Time Variance Authority office, he makes him watch the Avengers in action on the monitors as he invites him to do a mission and save the Sacred Timeline. While Paradox explains that his Earth-10005 timeline is in danger, he accidentally plays a scene where Thor holds a dying Deadpool in his arms.

This scene is repurposed footage from Alan Taylor’s 2013 Thor: The Dark World. But instead of Loki, Thor holds Deadpool as he cries. In some battle scenes, Deadpool is on the ground, with his mask half torn, while Thor looks over him. Paradox quips that Deadpool is not supposed to see it yet, as it happens in the distant future. However, it seems like a tease of a future event in Secret Wars.

Reynolds earlier cleared that Deadpool & Wolverine won’t be a commercial for future Marvel Studios movies. In fact, the post-credits scene features Johnny Storm / the Human Torch (Chris Evans) saying ungodly things about Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) to prove that he doesn’t invent everything he says to the villain. The words come straight from Johnny, leading to Cassandra killing him. So, instead of a post-credits scene, this sequence at the TVA seems to set up the stage for Secret Wars, hinting at Deadpool’s next appearance in the MCU.

Deadpool & Wolverine Earlier Teased Avengers: Secret Wars

In April, Disney’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas started with Deadpool & Wolverine. At the time, it released an extensive nine-minute footage of the threequel and a “silence your phone” PSA. Wade Wilson and Logan (Hugh Jackman) talked about the rumors surrounding Secret Wars, teasing that it would be soon unveiled.

“So, I heard Secret Wars is finally gonna introduce,” Wade tells Logan.

However, as Wade tries to talk continuously about the new Avengers movie, a phone ring interrupts them. Sadly, the two don’t get the chance to drop any spoilers as Logan starts to berate the audience and asks them to turn off their phones.

In addition, Reynolds himself seems to tease his part in an Avengers movie. In an Instagram post in June, he shared a clip of a blue flag with the Avengers’ logo waving in the wind. However, that logo is defaced with a sprayed anarchist symbol that seems true to Deadpool’s style.

To add more fuel to the fire, the actor didn’t add any caption to the post, which makes it more mysterious. And though there are theories that it will be part of a scene in Deadpool & Wolverine, that blue flag is never seen. Hence, it leads to theories that Deadpool will be part of an Avengers movie, probably Secret Wars.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Variety, Reynolds and Jackman both played coy when asked about their potential appearance in the future Avengers movies after Wade and Logan officially joined the MCU. Though they didn’t give a definite answer, the two weren’t closing their doors to the possibility.

“I don’t know. Yeah, we’ll see,” Reynolds said. On the other hand, Jackman was skeptical about answering, admitting he didn’t know what to say.

That intriguing scene of Deadpool and Thor may have set the former’s future in the MCU. The Avengers will soon be rebuilt, and with Wade expressing his interest in joining the group of superheroes, it may not be far before he becomes a part of Secret Wars.

Deadpool & Wolverine is now playing in theaters.
