Fans have loved Emma Corrin, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, for their roles in The Crown, A Murder at the End of the World, and Lady Chatterley’s Lover. However, they may start to hate them for their villainous character in Deadpool & Wolverine. Despite playing the villain Cassandra Nova, the actress has received high praise from the lead actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. With what they say is their incredible acting performance, Corrin reveals that they draw inspiration from the character of Hans Linda from the famous Quentin Tarantino movie Inglourious Basterds.
Hans is a Nazi colonel who hunts the Jews hiding in occupied France and is played by Christoph Waltz in Inglourious Basterds. Despite his calm demeanor, a true monster lies inside him that is eventually revealed as the film continues. By the looks of it, the same can be said about Corrin’s Cassandra in Deadpool & Wolverine. So, they observed Hans to portray Charles Xavier’s evil twin sister.
“Because he’s in that uniform, that says everything you need to know,” they told Harper’s Bazaar.
For Corrin, Hans can look as wholesome as he gets and talk to anyone without a hint of evilness. However, they described him as evil and the “worst person on the planet,” making him the opposite of a scary villain and hiding his true intentions through his pleasant appearance and great composure.
“He lets his physicality do the talking, and then he flips the other parts on their head,” they continued.
Though Corrin didn’t reveal the similarities between Hans and Cassandra, the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine showed the X-Men’s enemy as calm as the Jew Hunter in her fight against Logan. Sure, she looks cute and innocent in that battle, but the preview also proves she’s deadly, effortlessly giving Wolverine a hard time while trying to defeat her.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Praise Emma Corrin’s Portrayal of Cassandra Nova in Deadpool & Wolverine
Reynolds and Jackman have nothing but good words for Corrin as they portray Cassandra in Deadpool & Wolverine. From a Royal princess to a sleuth, they’re about to unleash a different side of themselves as a supervillain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“It felt like working with a skin-covered Swiss Army knife,” Reynolds told Harper’s Bazaar about working with Corrin. “Emma brought a Gene Wilder energy to Deadpool & Wolverine.”
Reynolds continued that from Corrin’s first scene onward; they perfectly conveyed why Cassandra became who she was. They effortlessly added a sense of “mischief, danger, and unpredictability to their role, making them understand why Cassandra had been motivated to bring the heroes down.
“And that’s because Emma is so f*cking excellent at humanizing even the most chaotic lines,” the actor continued. “The only thing we love more than hating a villain is loving one. And we love Emma’s Cassandra Nova from the jump.”
Jackman also highly regards Corrin, praising her ability to change and turn on a dime. “There was an effortlessness, a sense of danger,” he added.
So, for Reynolds, Corrin is “one of the greatest partners” he has ever worked in the Deadpool sandbox. And when he says that, he means they’re far greater than Jackman.
“You heard me, Jackman,” he quipped.
Corrin has already proven their great acting prowess with their awards and nominations. They won’t nab the Golden Globe’s Best Actress award for nothing. Hence, aside from cameos, storyline, Logan’s return, and more, fans should also look forward to seeing Corrin’s portrayal of Cassandra in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
