It looks like the Merc with the Mouth is ready for his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut. Despite the ongoing Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike affecting numerous film productions, there is some positive news for Deadpool 3 as negotiations continue.
There is little doubt that Deadpool 3 is one of the most highly anticipated Marvel films right now. However, production was halted due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA strikes earlier this year. This led to speculations about the sequel being pushed back to a later release date as filming has not yet been completed.
Luckily, things may have changed since the SAG-AFTRA strike continues negotiations. According to TheWrap, Hollywood studios are preparing to resume multiple paused productions swiftly once the actors' strike concludes. Due to the multitude of projects currently on hold, some may face significant delays, while others will take precedence. Notably, Disney has reaffirmed its commitment to Deadpool 3's slated release date of May 3, 2024, designating it as a "top priority" for the entertainment conglomerate once the strike is resolved.
However, the strike's potential continuation for several more months could pose challenges to these plans. There remains optimism that the strike could reach its conclusion soon, particularly with screenwriters already returning to work following the WGA strike. This development exerts added pressure on SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) to reach a resolution. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain when the strike will officially end, leaving the fate of Deadpool 3 hanging in the balance.
What to Expect in Deadpool 3
Director Shawn Levy collaborated on the script for the third installment of the film with a team of writers, including Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, and Ryan Reynolds. The movie is also set to feature some exciting cameo appearances, such as the reported return of Jennifer Garner as Elektra. Additionally, there has been a flurry of rumors surrounding possible cameo roles, with one scenario suggesting that Taylor Swift might portray Dazzler or another Marvel character, rekindling speculation among fans.
Deadpool 3 has not yet been confirmed to resume production. In the meantime, the film is still scheduled for release on May 3, 2024.
