Cyberpunk 2077 has been through a lot since its launch in 2020, from lore expansion to patch updates. As CD Projekt RED continuously builds its game, the developer recently released Update 2.1 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Aside from the usual bug fixes, changes, and other gameplay improvements, it also comes with an emotional reference to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an anime series based on Cyberpunk 2077. Produced by Studio Trigger and released on Netflix in September 2022, it’s set in the Cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith. The show was critically acclaimed by fans and critics alike and ended with several heartbreaking twists, and most of those moments featured the song I Really Want to Stay at Your House by Rose Walton and Hallie Coggins.

Though the song is part of the game’s world, it’s only on the map. Now, with the release of Update 2.1, players can enjoy the track. The update comes with romantic encounters, including a main job called I Really Want to Stay at Your House. The song is even used in the encounter quests, where players can dance with their partners.

The Update 2.1 also features the long-requested metro system, new motorbike mechanic, and the infamous sad Keanu Reeves meme, among others. For the full patch notes, you can visit Cyberpunk’s website.

Will there be Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2?

With the first season's success, fans can’t help but ask if there will be Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2. Sadly, after Netflix released the series’ 10 episodes, CD Projekt announced in October 2022 that the anime wouldn’t have a second season, as it had always been planned to be a standalone project. However, the game developer is always open to collaboration on future projects.

This is only reasonable as the first season neatly wrapped up everyone’s storyline. Though heartbreaking, it didn’t have any loose ends. That said, creating a second season may only look forceful and a fan service that may even ruin the plot of the series. However, it seems like this isn’t the end of the Night City. In an interview with Famitsu (via Video Games Chronicle), Satoru Honma, CD Projekt Red's community manager, revealed his interest in continuing the franchise by doing more anime in the future.
