After debuting to rave reviews and becoming one of the best anime series released in 2022, many fans are now waiting for the official announcement of Chainsaw Man Season 2. However, after the first season’s conclusion in December last year, everything is dead silent about Denji’s possible return. But, thankfully, the first season’s director, Ryu Nakayama, gives fans a little hope after hinting at the potential release of the second season.
After seemingly taking a break for over a month, Nakayama is back posting on X (formerly Twitter). Though he didn’t directly mention Chainsaw Man Season 2, many think his post about their goal to create a better working environment has something to do with the anime’s return.
The director continued that they want an environment free from power, moral harassment, and unnecessary stress. They also aim for a surrounding that is stable regarding money and time. “Although it is still small-scale, we are slowly taking shape,” he added. But as they’re only in their first year, they’re still building their foundation and promise to release the subject of this mysterious topic soon.
As one fan asked Nakayama if they could talk privately through direct message as they wanted him to be the anime's director, The Rising of the Shield Hero declined and apologized. “I can’t tell you anything,” he responded.
Does Ryu Nakayama’s post have something to do with Chainsaw Man Season 2?
Despite the international success of Chainsaw Man, the anime’s first season was criticized in Japan due to Nakayama’s incompetence, lack of respect for the source material, and poor execution of the series. Hence, there are rumors that Nakayama would leave the series, and Chainsaw Man Season 2 might have a new director. But nothing is confirmed yet as of this writing.
But as his post comes amid the controversies surrounding the working conditions in MAPPA, as complained by numerous Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 artists, and a year after the anime’s first season ended, fans can’t help but think that it may have something to do with his hopes for Chainsaw Man Season 2. However, it’s also possible that his social media return might hint at his experience at MAPPA, considering the studio produced the first season of the anime adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s manga.
That said, the future of Chainsaw Man Season 2 remains to be seen. However, fans stay hopeful that Denji’s story will continue in the days to come.
