Bridgerton Season 3 will follow the story of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) as they develop romantic feelings for each other. After being a wallflower, Penelope will undergo a major character development, and as the third season’s logline teases, she’s about to bloom. But aside from seeing a different Penelope, Adjoa Andoh, who will again play Lady Danbury, teases the lovely journey the youngest Feathrington child is about to take.
In an interview with Virginradio.co.uk, Andoh talked about Penelope’s storyline in Bridgerton Season 3 and how the fan-favorite character would come out of the shadows. The Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story star loved how Penelope had a double life as Lady Whistledown, calling her “sharp and sees everything.” But in the real world, nobody pays attention to Penelope.
“They expect Penelope is going to be the daughter that stays at home and looks after a mother in her old age,” she said.
Andoh described Penelope as a wallflower that nobody picked out at the disco. She knew a lot of people liked her, comparing them to kids who were always on the sidelines and didn’t get invites to a party. However, that’s about to change for Penelope in Bridgerton Season 3.
“I think there's an element of this season where the wallflower comes off the wall and stands in her glory, and the sun shines on her,” Andoh continued. “I think for those people who felt that they weren't the center of attention, there'll be something lovely in watching the journey of that character through this season.”
