Sasuke Uchiha, one of the most iconic characters in the Naruto franchise, has kept fans on the edge of their seats in recent months, and that's because when Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, the manga sequel to Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, was released, Sarada's father was nowhere to be seen. Sasuke was very much alive in the end of the first part of the series, and unlike Naruto and Hinata who are trapped unconscious in an alternate dimension, he was in Konoha when Eida's powers unleashed a memory-altering effect on (almost) everyone in the ninja world and switched the lives of Boruto Uzumaki and Kawaki, turning the former into a vigilante who's believed to have killed the former Hokage, Naruto.

In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, fans were surprised to see Boruto make a comeback alone, with Sasuke nowhere to be seen, and last month's chapter (Chapter 4) revealed that Sasuke has been turned into a tree, alive but unconscious - the same effect we've seen in the earlier chapters of the manga: when the Claw Grimes were able to turn some people in Konoha into a tree, which is like a miniature version of the God Tree that's made from the chakra of the powerful Ten-Tails beast. Fans are wondering how Sasuke ended up that way, and now, the latest chapter of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has revealed what happened to Sasuke.

Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 5, titled Target, is officially out, and we finally find out how Sasuke ended up being devoured by a miniature divine tree. Fans already know that Sasuke took Boruto as a student long ago, and now, a flashback scene in the latest chapter explained how Sasuke was defeated and taken out of the picture while training Naruto's son. It seems that they were ambushed on the road by Code, and it was there Sasuke sacrificed himself to protect Boruto and the future of the Hidden Leaf.

"Listen closely! There is absolutely no ways we can win against him at the present. So escape for now! Survive at all costs and build on the skills hammered into you. Then there won't be anyone who'll be able to stop you," Sasuke told his apprentice. The hero asks Boruto watch over Sarada over his absence, and the chapter shows him being transformed into a tree.

Is Sasuke dead in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex?

It was already confirmed in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 4 that the victims turned into parts of the Chakra tree are unconscious but alive during Sarada's conversation with Shikimaru. This confirms that Sasuke is still alive, but he's been in permanent suspension for at least a year at this point. We've also seen Sasuke's Juubi clone as well as three other villains with Rinnegan eyes whose original bodies were devoured by trees, and they're clearly manipulated by the will of the Ten-Tails beast.

Sarada and Boruto reunite in the end of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 5

In the final scene of Boruto:Two Blue Vortex Chapter 5, Boruto surprises Sarada, telling her that his master, Sasuke, believed in him, still risking his life while doubting his memory to save him. "For you...Sarada," he tells her. Sarada hugs Boruto tight, and tells him that he's late. Boruto apologizes, and says that he's home now.

It looks like this chapter is setting up a fight between Juubi clone Sasuke and Sarada as we see the villain declare that his target is Sasuke's daughter.
