As fans patiently wait for The Mandalorian Season 4, Lucasfilm officially announced Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu movie. Din Djarin and his adopted Yoda species will be taking their adventure to the big screen amid the rumors that the new season of the TV series will be turned into a film. Though the production company has yet to confirm the claims, it reveals more details about the upcoming movie.
The Star Wars official website confirmed the coming of The Mandalorian & Grogu, helmed by The Mandalorian creator himself, Jon Favreau. Favreau also produced the film alongside the Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and the Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni. This film is said to be different from the Star Wars movie, a crossover between the series set during The New Republic that Filoni is developing.
Talking about the new film, Favreau said he loved telling stories set in the world created by the great filmmaker George Lucas. As he will again work on a story about Mando and Grogu, the idea of taking it on the big screen excites him the most.
Kennedy also spoke about The Mandalorian & Grogu. “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” she said.
The site also revealed that The Mandalorian & Grogu would lead the number of films coming from the franchise by the directors Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Filoni. However, it didn’t mention anything about Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film, which has been in development for years.
Will there be The Mandalorian Season 4?
Nearly a year after Season 3 ended, neither Lucasfilm nor Disney has yet to confirm the coming of The Mandalorian Season 4. However, the series remains one of the most anticipated Star Wars shows to date, and it looks like everyone is just waiting for it to be officially greenlit.
In fact, in an interview with BFMTV Inside in February 2023, Favreau confirmed that the scripts for the new season were already completed even before the third installment finished airing. “Season 4? Yeah, I’ve written it already. We have to know where we are going to tell a fully formed story,” he said. He even revealed that he and Filoni had mapped it out and would just slowly write each episode.
However, Jeff Sneider claimed on The Hot Mic podcast that the fourth season might be turned into a movie, and it would be the next Star Wars film instead of Daisy Ridley’s new movie as Rey. Allegedly, this change had something to do with the writers’ and actors’ strikes last year. However, fans are advised to take this assumption with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed yet.
Sure, fans are probably celebrating to see Mando and Grogu on the big screen together. However, many still want confirmation about the future of The Mandalorian as its story may shift to the planet of Mandalore and its former residents.
