Ahsoka Season 1 released its final episode on Disney+ earlier this week, and it made fans excited for the future of the Star Wars franchise. The eight-episode series starring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano has strong ties to the animated shows Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, and one of the animated characters brought to life in live-action in Ahsoka is Hera Syndulla, the Twi'lek expert pilot played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim, Birds of Prey).

Today, the official social media accounts of Star Wars shared a behind-the-scenes video of the 38-year-old actress breaking down her character. The caption in the post reads: "Space mother is mothering". In the video, Winstead says, "Oh my god, I'm in Star Wars", and she went on to talk about her character, Hera, calling her the "ultimate space mom" and breaks down how she's a "mother figure" to almost everyone in her life, including her son, Jacen (Evan Whitten). In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly's Dagobah Dispatch podcast, Winstead talked about her experience playing Hera in Ahsoka, explaining how the character's "rich history" from Star Wars Rebels made the experience of playing the role "a real luxury". You can read the full quote here:

Having a character who's already existed and has such a rich history on something like  Rebels , as an actor, it's incredible because sometimes we're tasked with creating our own backstories or trying to flesh out a character that doesn't really have that much on the page. And so to play a character that has season after season of storylines and complex histories with everyone in their life and relationships and experiences was really something I've never experienced quite like that... To have  Rebels  to refer to, and to have [ Rebels  and  Ahsoka  creator Dave Filoni] to speak to about it every day on set, was a real luxury for sure.

Will there be Ahsoka Season 2?

According to Deadline's report this week, "Ahsoka Season 2 is more of a reality in the conversation, though nothing is locked yet." Since we know Ahsoka's strong ties with The Mandalorian and that showrunner Dave Filoni is planning to release a Star Wars movie, it's likely that we will see Ahsoka, Hera, Sabine, Ezra, and other characters back again, but it's likely that we will see The Mandalorian Season 4 released first before the potential second season of Ahsoka arrives on Disney+.
