For the first time in over 30 years, after Yoshihiro Togashi started the story of Yusuke Urameshi in Yu Yu Hakusho manga, Netflix adapted the series into live-action, and it’s about to hit the small screen this month. After releasing a new trailer at the recent Geeked Week virtual event, the streamer has dropped a set of new stills, hinting at the intense fights of Team Urameshi against Team Toguro.
The Yu Yu Hakusho previews feature the characters fans are about to see in the live action. Of course, it starts with the series’ protagonist, Yusuke Urameshi, who seems to be in the middle of a fight, followed by a glimpse of Kurama in action. Karasu then appears, and he prepares for a battle as he starts to wield his power on his hand.
The stills also feature Keiko, who looks mad and serious as she talks to Yusuke; Hiei, holding his sword and is ready to attack; and Younger Toguro, seemingly calling an enemy to get near him. Koenma then takes the scene as he starts to craft his power between his hands. Elder Toguro then shows his ability as he points his fingers at someone, while Genkai looks mad in her solo still. The other previews also feature Yukina, who seems to be in a cage; Bui, wearing his armor; and Kazuma, escaping an enemy.

What is Yu Yu Hakusho live-action about?
Based on the manga series of the same name by Yoshihiro Togashi, Yu Yu Hakusho started its serialization in 1990. Despite only running for four years, collecting 19 tankobon volumes and comprising 175 chapters, it’s one of the best-selling manga ever, with over 78 million copies in circulation. No wonder it has spawned a media franchise, with an anime produced by Fuji Television, Yomiko Advertising, and Studio Pierrot, and was released worldwide. It also has two animated films, a series of original video animations (OVA), audio albums, video games, and other merchandise.
Now, a Yu Yu Hakusho live-action adaptation is about to come, following the story of Yusuke, a rowdy teenager who dies after trying to save a child from being hit by a car. As he sees his body from the afterlife, he meets Botan, who brings him to the spirit world. With his rough attitude, Botan tells Yusuke that no one will believe him that he has saved the kid, and as his death is premature and unexpected, he has no place in heaven or hell. However, he still gets a second chance in life after completing a trial and returns to the human world as an Underworld Detective to investigate demons.
