With the undeniable success of One Piece, the curse of live-action adaptations of anime and manga seems to be lifted off of Netflix. The streaming platform is pushing their luck as they bring more live-action adaptations on screen and up next is Yu Yu Hakusho. The creator of the original manga series, Yoshihiro Togashi confirms that he oversaw the production of the live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho in some capacity.
When Netflix found a huge success on One Piece breaking the code on the live-action adaptation curse, Netflix decided to stand and deliver with more live-action adaptations of anime or manga series. Following the Straw Hat crew comes the shonen crew of Yusuke Urameshi with Yu Yu Hakusho. A new report on X claims that Yoshihiro Togashi visited the set of Netflix's Yu Yu Hakusho where the mangaka had some discussions with the cast of the upcoming live-action series. While it is not in the same capacity as that of Eiichiro Oda who was an executive producer in One Piece, Togashi being able to visit the set and talk to the cast will suffice.
Takumi Kitamura who plays Yusuke Urameshi, and Keita Machida who portrays Koenma also confirmed that they conferred with Togashi when the mangaka visited them on set. All these were made by Togashi even when he was known to be struggling with health issues which led to breaks in between his current Hunter x Hunter project.
What is Yu Yu Hakusho on Netflix about?
Yu Yu Hakusho is from the pages of the manga series of the same which was published from 1990 to 1994 and to day, it has 78 million copies in circulation across the globe which leads to it being one of the best-selling manga of all time. An animated series based on the manga aired in 1992 to 1994. Yu Yu Hakusho follows the story of Yusuke Urameshi who died young because he saved a young child from a speeding car.
When Yusuke saw his body from the afterlife, he knew he had to do something so he met with Botan to be able to guide him through the spirit world. Botan reveals to Yusuke that he died prematurely from a selfless act which means that he can neither be in heaven nor hell. Because of this, Yusuke underwent trial which caused for him to return to the human world to do investigations on demons being an underworld detective.
Yu Yu Hakusho comes out on Netflix starting Dec. 14.
