X-Men ‘97 has continuously been going wild with its surprising turn of events and the recently released Episode, Tolerance Is Extinction – Part 1, is like no other. The first part of the first season’s three-part finale featured several exciting cameos, including Spider-Man. However, as fans are confused about the variant of this character, showrunner Beau DeMayo confirms the speculations that he’s from Spider-Man: The Animated Series.
Warning: Spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.
After X-Men ‘97 Episode 8 was released on Disney+, DeMayo shared a tweet about his favorite X-Men issue on X (formerly Twitter). As expected, fans filled the comment section of his post with questions about the new episode, and one of them asked if the Spider-Man who appeared was from the 1994 animated series voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes.
“It is indeed that Spider-Man,” he responded.
The appearance of Spider-Man sent shivers down the spine. He was seen swinging on his webs in Manhattan before sensing Magneto’s magnetism waves vibrating across the Earth. When he landed on a building, he reacted to the lights going out and the city turning dark. He watched in terror as he felt Magneto unleashing his rage.
Though this is the first time Spider-Man made a cameo in X-Men ‘97, he has encountered the group of mutants several times before. Spider-Man TAS, the original X-Men: The Animated Series, and the Disney+ revival all exist in the same universe, set in the ‘90s timeline. That said, a crossover usually happened then, and it’s only reasonable that a ‘90s Friendly Neighborhood hero would appear in the reboot.
Who are the Marvel characters that appear in X-Men ’97 Episode 8?
X-Men ‘97 Episode 8 dropped a big shocker one after another, including several Marvel character cameos. After Magneto's presumed death in Episode 5, Remember It, the series surprised everyone when the former supervillain was seen alive in Episode 7, Bright Eyes, though he was held captive by Bastion. But before Episode 8 ended, Val Cooper helped Magneto escape and unleashed his powers on Earth to defeat the Sentinels.
This led to a lot of people feeling his powers across the globe, making several Marvel characters appear. The legendary Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom and Captain America: Civil War supervillain Baron Zemo were seen. Another X-Men enemy, Silver Samurai, also made a cameo, followed by another mutant adversary, Omega Red. Though it remains to be seen what their appearances mean for the first season’s nearing finale, there are high expectations surrounding its final two episodes.
X-Men ‘97 Episodes 1 to 8 are available to stream on Disney+, while new episodes are set to release every Wednesday. With these big cameos at the start of the first season’s three-episode finale, the next character appearances make it more exciting.
