When is X-Men '97 coming? After 25 long years, the beloved characters of the X-Men: The Animated Series are finally returning on television. The new animated show, titled X-Men '97, will be a direct continuation of the classic superhero series that comic book fans enjoyed.

The iconic members of the X-Men, including Wolverine, Cyclops, Professor X, Jean Grey, Rogue, Storm, and other mutants will return, and this time, the heroic characters will be fighting alongside Magneto after the cliffhanger of the original series. For the first time in over a couple of decades, we'll finally see the iconic characters reunite. X-Men '97 News: What are the latest updates?

  • In January 2024, Disney and Marvel revealed brand new logos for the characters of X-Men '97:

As you can see above, the logos are for the mutants including Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Gambit, Rogue, Jubilee, Beast, Magneto, and the Sentinels.

X-Men '97 Release Window: When is the revival series coming?

Marvel Studios and Disney haven't announced an exactl release date for X-Men '97, but the writers of the original series, Eric and Julia Lewald, did share some information on when the revival series is expected to come out, as well as the episode count of the show.

There is great love and affection and respect from an entire group of people that are doing this show, starting at the top with Beau DeMayo as the showrunner. And they have this challenge, I believe, looking at 10 episodes for the first season that’s gonna come out mid-next year, and they’re starting it soon after ours ended.

They made the comments in February 2022, and we've already reached Q3 2023. On September 1, The Hollywood Reporter said that the animated series will be released in early 2024. This release date window was confirmed in December 2023.


X-Men '97 Plot: What will X-Men '97 be about?

X-Men '97 is expected to pick up where X-Men: The Animated Series left off, following Professor Xavier (Cedric Smith) heading into space with Shi'Ar ally Lilandra (Camilla Scott) to search for a cure for his terminal illness.

Storm and Wolverine try to continue the X-Men. Magneto comes in and wants to step up for Charles Xavier. Sinister comes in to try to end the X-Men once and for all.


The revival series takes place just a few months later in a world of increased sympathy towards mutants. This means we'll find out what happened after the mutants said goodbye to Professor X.

On September 15, NYCC 2023 revealed a first look at the NYCC Exclusive Goblin Queen / Madelyne Pryor Funko POP!, confirming that the clone of Jean Grey will appear in the show.

X-Men '97 Cast: Who will return to voice the mutants?

Most of the voice cast from the popular '90s series will return in X-Men '97 to bring the mutants to life once again.

Cal Dodd is back to voice Wolverine, a welcome return to anyone who watched the iconic '90s series. Alongside Dodd: George Buza is back as Hank McCoy, Alison Sealy Smith returns as Storm, Lenore Zann is back as Rogue, Catherine Disher returns as Jean Grey, Adrian Hough is voicing Nightcrawler, Chris Potter is the voice of Gambit, and Christopher Britton is Minster Sinister.

Alyson Court already confirmed that she won't return to voice Jubilee, but we still don't know who's voicing the character. There are also other high-profile actors joining the cast in undisclosed roles. Jeff Bennett and Jennifer Hale have both been alongside a list of other actors, all for unknown characters.

As of January 10, 2024, there are currently no trailers for X-Men '97 but the first one should be released soon.

X-Men '97 will be available to watch on Disney Plus when it's released. The animated series is confirmed to have a total of 10 episodes.

You can also watch the original animated series on Disney Plus, so you have a lot of time to binge the iconic series before the revival comes out.

Is X-Men '97 Season 2 already confirmed?

Marvel Studios and Disney already confirmed that X-Men '97 Season 1 will not be the last. Season 2 has officially been confirmed, so expect the second season to arrive on Disney Plus in the near future.
