The Wind Breaker manga, serialized on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket since January 2021, follows a group of high school delinquents who transform into protectors of their town, blending heart-pounding action with themes of camaraderie and redemption. The live-action film introduces an original story crafted specifically for the big screen, with Nii closely involved to ensure the essence of his creation remains intact. Filming took place in Okinawa Prefecture from February to April 2025, with the vibrant Higashi-Kaze Shopping District serving as the backdrop, as highlighted in a teaser showcasing the iconic silhouettes of Sakura and the Bofurin crew.

Crunchyroll’s official description captures the essence of Wind Breaker:

Welcome to Furin High School, an institution infamous for its population of brawny brutes who solve every conflict with a show of strength. Some of the students even formed a group, Bofurin, which protects the town. Haruka Sakura, a first-year student who moved in from out of town, is only interested in one thing: fighting his way to the top.

Hagiwara’s directorial vision, paired with Masaike’s storytelling expertise, aims to capture the raw intensity and emotional depth that have made Wind Breaker a standout in the shonen genre. The choice of Okinawa as a filming location adds a unique cultural texture, grounding the fictional town in a tangible, atmospheric setting. While plot details remain under wraps, the original narrative is expected to expand on the manga’s themes, offering both longtime readers and newcomers a fresh perspective on the characters’ gritty yet heartfelt journey.
