Werewolf by Night could soon get a sequel! Director Michael Giacchino has given an optimistic update on the potential for a second film and discussed the possibilities of expanding the supernatural adventure within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although Werewolf by Night 2 might not have received an official greenlight yet, Giacchino has hinted at ongoing discussions in this regard.
Giacchino opened up about the possibility during a Werewolf by Night screening. The director shared with Collider that "there's always talk" about the possibility of a sequel.
"There's always talk. But, you know, until somebody decides to spend a penny, nothing happens yet," Giacchino said. "So, hopefully. My wish is that, yes, there will be more with these characters. I would love to, and I have ideas of what I would love to do with them, and it's all crazy and nuts, but I think that's the only way to go about it. So, hopefully, one day. Hopefully, one day."
Not surprisingly, Marvel fans are with Giacchino on this one and are hoping that the special feature, which starred Gabriel Garcia Bernal and Laura Donnelly, will get a second film exploring what happened to Jack Russell and Elsa Bloodstone after they parted ways.
What could happen in Werewolf By Night 2
One of the standout qualities of Werewolf by Night was its ability to exist independently, set in a time period long before the Avengers were a part of the MCU. If a sequel comes to fruition, it seems natural to continue within the same time frame, following the journeys of Jack Russell and Elsa Bloodstone. However, another approach could involve a time jump to bring the story closer to the current MCU timeline, exploring Jack's experiences when other superheroes were emerging.
A sequel like Werewolf by Night 2 offers a fantastic opportunity to introduce additional supernatural elements into the MCU, building on the introduction of Man-Thing in the initial TV movie. Since Man-Thing successfully captured the essence of classic horror films within the MCU setting, it would be an awesome idea to bring him back for the sequel as well. Although this possibility might be among the concepts Giacchino has presented to Marvel Studios, the exact direction of the sequel remains uncertain.
Should Werewolf by Night 2 materialize and prove to be another triumph for Disney+, it could pave the way for more Marvel Studios Special Presentations in the future. This format has demonstrated its effectiveness for Marvel Studios, providing a platform for various characters to shine in standalone stories on Disney+ instead of traditional TV series or theatrical releases.
For now, the fate of the Werewolf by Night franchise awaits further developments, with time revealing whether it will continue to expand its supernatural adventures in the MCU. In the meantime, fans can rewatch the first film, now "in vibrant color", on Disney+.
