Fans are now looking forward to seeing Wednesday Season 2 after becoming one of the biggest Netflix Original releases in 2022 and receiving a season renewal this year. However, it seems like not every original star will return to the series after Percy Hynes White, who plays the role of Xavier Thorpe, has reportedly been dropped from the show over the sexual assault allegations against him.
In a now-deleted tweet in January, an X (formerly Twitter) user alleged White had assaulted her at a party in Toronto. The anonymous poster also claimed that the actor and his friends would usually throw parties and provide alcohol and drugs to underage girls to have sex with them.
As this resulted in a campaign to remove White from Wednesday Season 2, it looks like their cries have been heard. Industry insiders told DailyMail that the 21-year-old has been “written out” of the hit Netflix series. The media also alleged that a source close to the White family confirmed the claim.
However, a different tipster comes to White’s rescue, saying he’s a wonderful man and “never took part” in any false claims against him. “Percy is respectful, gracious, talented actor, a true professional. He's unfailingly polite to all, including the crew and his fans, most of whom are loyal to him, as it should be,” the informant said.
So, as Netflix allegedly dropped him from Wednesday Season 2, the insider called it a “disgrace,” seemingly basing its decision on “false rumors.” “It’s just not right,” the source stressed.
Fans should take this rumor with a grain of salt, as nothing is confirmed yet. The streamer allegedly asserted that no casting decision had been made due to the ongoing writer strikes in Hollywood.
What are Percy Hynes White’s sexual assault allegations about?
The accuser claimed White would pursue, have sex with, abuse, and get a woman, who was only 13/14 at the time, high. The last time they allegedly slept together was when the woman was only 16, while the Wednesday star was already 20.
“He assaulted me at one of those parties awhile I was too drunk, and he had cornered and pressured and assaulted multiple of my friends,” the accusation continued. Since then, similar allegations against White emerged, resulting in the calls to have him removed from Wednesday Season 2.
However, The Gifted star denied the claims, calling them a “campaign of misinformation” in a June post on his Instagram Story. White refused to accept being portrayed as someone “bigoted or criminally negligent of people’s safety.”
“These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims. It’s very distressing to know that this misinformation has upset people,” he wrote. “I’m really thankful for everyone who’s stood by me and helped share the facts. Harassment of my family, friends and coworkers needs to stop please.”
So far, Netflix has yet to confirm whether White is dropped from Wednesday Season 2. White himself is also yet to break his silence about it. But if the rumors are true, some will celebrate while others may be saddened.
