Marvel Studios unveiled exciting details about VisionQuest, the highly-anticipated Disney+ series that will serve as the final chapter in the WandaVision trilogy, during its New York Comic Con 2025 panel. The series, starring Paul Bettany as White Vision, promises to delve deeper into the android’s identity crisis while introducing a grown-up version of Wanda and Vision’s son, Tommy Shepherd, played by Ruaridh Mollica. The announcement, accompanied by exclusive footage, highlighted the show’s trippy narrative and its connections to WandaVision and Agatha All Along.

VisionQuest follows the events of WandaVision, where White Vision, a weaponized copy of the original Vision, was created to destroy Wanda Maximoff. During the New York Comic Con panel , Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel TV, confirmed that the series, helmed by Star Trek: Picard’s final season showrunner Terry Matalas, completes the trilogy crafted by series creator Jac Schaeffer. The exclusive footage revealed a surreal exploration of White Vision’s psyche, as he grapples with the memories of his predecessor, the original “Red Vision.”

Paul Bettany, reprising his role, shared insight into White Vision’s journey: “Red Vision gave White Vision all of his memories, including all of his memories from within the hex,” he said at the panel (via Entertainment Weekly). The journey for the season, he continued, will be White Vision’s “attempt to connect to those memories and who he was...but with lasers!” This struggle to reconcile his identity forms the emotional core of the series, blending introspective storytelling with action-packed elements.

The footage showcased a mind-bending setting inside Vision’s android brain, where he encounters personifications of various programs. These include Henry Lewis as D.U.M.-E, Jonathan Sayer as U, James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S., Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., and Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H. This imaginative concept continues the reality-warping aesthetic established in WandaVision and Agatha All Along, pushing the boundaries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s storytelling.

A significant reveal from the footage was the return of James Spader as Ultron, Vision’s creator and pseudo-father, who appeared in both his metallic CG form from Avengers: Age of Ultron and a human-like guise. Ultron’s presence adds a layer of tension, as he toys with Vision’s existential crisis. The footage culminated in a pivotal moment where Vision and Ultron view CCTV footage of a young man identifying himself as Thomas Shepherd, portrayed by Ruaridh Mollica. Known as Tommy, he is the grown-up version of Wanda and Vision’s magically created son, previously played by Jett Klyne as a child in WandaVision. Ultron’s teasing remark, “Mazel tov, it’s a boy,” underscores the significance of Tommy’s return.

In Marvel Comics, Tommy, also known as Speed, possesses superspeed abilities akin to his uncle, Pietro Maximoff. His reappearance ties into the events of Agatha All Along, where Joe Locke’s Billy Maximoff, Tommy’s brother, embarked on a quest to find him. Billy, who inherited reality-altering powers similar to his mother Wanda, transferred his spirit into the body of teenager Billy Kaplan after the collapse of Wanda’s hex. The dynamic between the brothers, one a witch and the other a speedster, sets the stage for compelling family drama in VisionQuest.

The combination of introspective character development, innovative visuals, and connections to established characters like Ultron and Tommy Shepherd positions VisionQuest as a must-watch for Marvel enthusiasts.
