Virgin River is one of the most loved series on Netflix today. Knowing it’s a fan-favorite, the streamer has already confirmed the coming of Virgin River Season 6 even before the fifth season’s release. But with Virgin River Season 5’s drop in viewership, there are now questions if a new season will still happen.
Netflix renewed Virgin River for a sixth season in May 2023. However, with the ongoing writers’ strike, it may take a little while before the new season comes to fruition. But aside from that, there may be another problem that the series may face that may result in its cancellation (hopefully not).
According to the TV analytics firm Samba TV, only 1.3 million domestic households watched Virgin River Season 5 Part 1 during its first four days on Netflix. Compared to its previous season's debut in July 2022, which recorded 1.46 million viewers, the new season’s viewership has seen a 13% drop.
Samba TV also revealed that the fourth season had one of the highest retention rates, as 58% of its viewers continuously watched the show from its premiere to the finale. But as the fifth season still has two episodes remaining to be released, so it may experience the same. Sure, the fifth season only received a 68% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, but it can be denied that it earned positive reviews from fans and critics alike.
Will there be Virgin River Season 6?
As Netflix renewed the show, Virgin River Season 6 may still happen. The service may have trusted the series so much, as proven by its early renewal. The 1 million viewership mark during its first four days is also seen as a big achievement. Hence, the 13% drop may not be a problem at all.
Virgin River Season 5 Christmas episodes are yet to be released, so there’s still a chance that the series may earn high viewership again, especially with the number of big revelations waiting to be unveiled. Who knows, it may even surpass the fourth season’s record.
What may happen in Virgin River Season 6?
As the last two episodes of Virgin River Season 5 are yet to be released, it’s hard to predict what may happen in the sixth season. However, as the current season has introduced new plotlines, Virgin River Season 6 may explore more about Lizzie’s possible pregnancy, Doc’s clinical trial, and Mel and Jack’s plan to buy Lily’s farm.
Jack and Mel seemingly want to build their growing family on the farm. Not only that, but Jack also says it could be the perfect place to get married. So, does it mean a wedding will happen in Virgin River Season 6? By the looks of it, several storylines still need to be played out.
So far, there have yet to be any words on when Virgin River Season 6 may be released. Alternatively, Virgin River Season 5 Christmas episodes will hit Netflix on November 30.
