Developer Riot Games has announced that VALORANT has officially launched on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S today. The free-to-play 5v5 tactical first-person shooter initially launched on PC on June 2, 2020, and now the beta test for the consoles have ended, and the game surprisingly launched on the consoles today.

“We’ve received so much valuable feedback from players during Limited Beta, and feel confident to deliver on our gameplay promise for console players,” VALORANT production director Arnar Gylfason said in a press release. “Whether it’s hitting that perfect shot, executing a flawless team play, or wiping out the enemy team, we look forward to seeing console players experience the same gameplay thrill as VALORANT PC players.”

While this comes as a surprise since Riot didn't previously announce a launch date for the console version, word about its launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S was leaked last week, but it didn't accurately predict the exact launch date. You can check out the official key art for the console version of VALORANT in this tweet from the game's official X account:

The console version of VALORANT is currently only available in United States and Canada, Europe, Japan, and Brazil on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Cross-play will not be available between console and PC player matches to maintain the game's renowned standard for competitive integrity. Riot clarified that both PC and console versions will get simultaneous platform releases of all live patch updates, new agents, premium content, maps, and additional live service features.

Riot, a global games company, said that it will continue to monitor other regions for further expansion onto consoles as it is the company's goal to let anyone who wants to play VALORANT experience it at the quality for which it was intended.

A new VALORANT cinematic titled Incursion was also released, and it features various Agents in action-packed sequences, highlighting their signature abilities and the game's tactical shooter gameplay.

VALORANT has been one of the biggest games on PC since it launched in June 2020, and it'll likely be one of the biggest free-to-play games across the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. A mobile version of the game is currently development, but Riot hasn't shared any recent updates about that yet.
