Netflix’s K-drama content for June 2024 has proven to be big. After dropping Hierarchy and the nearing release of Agents of Mystery, the streamer is now gearing up for its upcoming political thriller The Whirlwind. Netflix will now delve into the tumultuous political issues of South Korea, as the trailer shows Sol Kyung-gu and Kim Hee-ae’s intense rivalry.

You can watch The Whirlwind preview below:

The Whirlwind trailer begins with a man’s narration about a fair country threatened to be ruined by the people in power who promise to turn the nation into heaven but will later turn it into hell. Different clips show the magistrates and politicians waving at people during what looks like a campaign, and the scene focuses on Kyung-gu.

Things turn to be awry when South Korea's President dies of a heart attack. Hee-ae starts to doubt the manner of the president’s death, asking if only one of the country’s Presidents has been assassinated or if there is another one. Now that the Blue House is vacant and waiting for a new occupant, Hee-ae promises never to let Kyung-gu take the seat.

The two face each other, and Hee-ae warns to crush Kyung-gu if he takes another step near her. Later, Kyung-gu makes a big reveal that he assassinated the President. This breaking news alarms the whole country and leads to chaos. As Kyung-gu asks for a month to turn the world upside down, Hee-ae asks him how far he plans to go.

“One step further than you,” he says.

As the trailer shows the different characters who will intensify the political drama, Kyung-gu confesses that he can no longer stand the horror of the world and be ruled by the unrighteous. So, amid his growing rivalry with Hee-ae, he asks her to join him in hell.

Netflix has also released the main poster for The Whirlwind, showing the high-stakes showdown between Kyung-gu and Hee-ae. The key art perfectly captures the lead characters’ emotions as they battle to seize more power.
