As fans are patiently waiting for Din Djarin and his adopted Din Grogu’s return in The Mandalorian Season 4, Lucasfilm has announced the coming of a new Star Wars movie. Titled Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu, the two will take their adventure to the big screen. That said, a new report claimed that the film is now the studio’s top priority, giving the series a disappointing release update as it’s seemingly set aside.

The announcement of The Mandalorian & Grogu posed a lot of questions about the future of The Mandalorian Season 4. According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision newsletter, Lucasfilm originally intended to do another season of the Pedro Pascal-led series after completing all the scripts. However, due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, things got re-evaluated, and the plans were changed, with the making of a movie a top priority.

The series' future remains to be seen, though Disney is reportedly planning to release the fourth season after the film. However, if the movie succeeds, it may lead to the start of the next phase of Mando’s story, continuing in movie sequels instead of the show's new seasons.

The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau will direct this new Star Wars film and serve as the producer alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and the Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni. Favreau is also said to write the script with Feloni.

Will there be The Mandalorian Season 4?

Though it’s unknown what will happen next to The Mandalorian Season 4, it’s reportedly still a go. Deadline reported that it’s also in development alongside Mandalorian & Grogu. Reliable Star Wars scoopers Bespin Bulletin and Making Star Wars also confirmed the claim. But contrary to the rumors that it will be released after the movie, Disney allegedly plans to drop it before the film.

The fourth season is said to have only six episodes instead of the usual eight, as Mandalorian & Grogu will serve as its finale. With these contradicting claims, fans are advised to take these assumptions with a grain of salt, as Lucasfilm hasn’t confirmed anything yet.

In February 2023, Favreau told BFMTV Inside that the scripts for The Mandalorian Season 4 had already been completed even before the third season ended. It was supposed to start filming in September 2023, but the Hollywood strikes happened, and the production was delayed indefinitely.
