The ending theme song for GATE 2: Tides of Conflict has been revealed at last, and it comes from a worldwide contest rather than a record label. The winning song is Your Memory, performed by Sora no Umi with music by oFanonobu.
The theme was chosen through a collaboration with The VOCALOID Collection Summer 2026, an open contest that invited creators from around the world to submit original songs built around Vocaloid synthesized vocalists. The VOCALOID Collection announced the winning entry, and a separate collaboration with the Utaite Collection event this fall settled on Sora no Umi to perform the song's broadcast version.
oFanonobu says the song "wasn't originally made with GATE2 in mind," explaining that it was written to express "the lament and resignation of precious things being lost over time." The creator added that having it adopted as the anime's ending feels like "a strange fate," and hopes it reaches everyone who loves Gate alongside the series itself.
Sora no Umi won the singer's role separately, taking the GATE2 Prize at the Utaite Collection event in fall 2026, where she placed first in the rookie ranking. Her audition entry, a cover of Karappo e, drew attention for her singing, and she takes home a ¥300,000 prize as the official ending singer, while oFanonobu receives ¥700,000 for the song.
"I sang with all my sincerity, hoping to express even a little of the overwhelming world that spreads from the sound," Sora no Umi said. "I hope it stays close to the memories of everyone who listens."
The ending sequence itself runs 90 seconds and is produced by Studio M2, the studio animating the series. The anime is directed by Toru Takahashi, with series composition and scripts by Tatsuhiko Urahata, who returns from the first Gate anime, character designs by Shigeru Fujita, and music by Yoshiaki Fujisawa, who also returns.
What is GATE 2: Tides of Conflict about?
GATE 2: Tides of Conflict adapts Takumi Yanai's sequel light novel series Gate Season 2: Jieitai Kano Umi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri, published by AlphaPolis. The military fantasy and isekai franchise has more than 7.5 million copies of its novels and manga in circulation.
The original Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri novels began in 2006, and A-1 Pictures adapted them into a two-cour television anime in 2015 and 2016. Tides of Conflict is the franchise's first anime sequel, built around an entirely new cast and setting.
The sequel moves the action from land to sea years after a gate to another world first opened in Tokyo. Where the original series followed the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, the new story sails with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force into the waters of the Special Region.
The series' official synopsis:
Years after the Gate to another world first opened in Tokyo, Japan now manages the passage under strict control. The JSDF explores the Special Region while the JMSDF sails its seas. Petty Officer Hajime Tokushima, once a chef, now finds himself aboard the submarine Kitashio under Captain Edajima. Their mission: infiltrate Tinae and rescue an abducted journalist. Along the way, they join forces with Princess Primera, the pirate heir Shura no Arch, and the mystical Ship Guardian, Odette Ze Nebula. Together, they face raging wars, pirate fleets, and monstrous sea creatures — testing their resolve as they fight to complete their mission.
GATE 2: Tides of Conflict is scheduled to premiere on television in Japan in 2027.
