The Game Awards is Ditching “World Premiere” Callouts

Don't expect to hear “World Premiere” at this year's The Game Awards.

In the past, there were loud “World Premiere” callouts before major announcements, new trailers, and first looks between awards being given out at The Game Awards. That specific phrase, along with a title card of some kind, is meant to signify or alert people when something is a huge deal and is worth focusing on. However, over the past couple of years, the phrase has become a huge part of The Game Awards and is associated with nearly all of the announcements.

Not only this, but the World Premiere callouts have also found their way into Summer Game Fest since both events are organized by Geoff Keighley. However, one shouldn’t look forward to hearing a lot of those (if any) this year during The Game Awards 2023. During this week’s preview for the big event, Keighley somewhat confirmed this news while answering questions from the people looking forward to the event.

One particular fan asked him about the number of World Premieres that’d be seen at the show, and this question led to an explanation regarding The Game Awards and why it’s drifting away from World Premieres. Keighley avoided revealing an exact number but claimed that the amount should be comparable to what fans have seen in the past. He also said:

We often put up those cards: 'World Premiere, World Premiere.' And we're kind of moving away from that just 'cause I think everything's kind of just 'Is it a first look? Is it an announcement?' etc. etc. So, we just treat it all as great game content.

It’s important to note that The Game Awards will still have big announcements even if fans don’t hear “World Premiere” before them, and only the callout is being taken away or at least reduced.

Can GTA 6 be announced at The Game Awards 2023?

The Game Awards is an exciting time of the year for gamers, with many massive updates and game announcements taking place. This year, there seems to be extra hype because many fans believe that the GTA 6 announcement might also be a part of the event. Rockstar Games previously announced that the game would receive its reveal trailer in early December, which is suspiciously close to The Game Awards 2023 set to take place on December 7.
