A phantom named Yamaoka is about to step out of the shadows. The Fable Season 2 has revealed a new key visual, six additions to its main cast, and its broadcast premiere — and the visual puts the looming Yamaoka directly over Akira Sato, the invincible hitman who is still under orders not to kill anyone.

The announcement came through the anime's official website and official X account on October 13, confirming that Season 2 premieres on January 9, 2027. The new season airs across the Nippon TV network in Japan, taking the Saturday 24:55 slot — 12:55 a.m. early Sunday morning.

Six voice actors join the main cast for Season 2:

  • Koichi Yamadera (Beerus in Dragon Ball Super: Beerus) as Yamaoka

  • Takanori Hoshino (Nobuyuki Kai in Haikyu!!) as Azami

  • Hiroyuki Yoshino (Present Mic in My Hero Academia) as Yukari

  • Taiten Kusunoki (Rock Bison in Tiger & Bunny) as Jiro

  • Satoshi Mikami (Byakuya Ishigami in Dr. STONE) as Koji Mizuno

  • Seiyu Fujiwara (Shonari in FLCL Grunge) as Suzumushi

The main cast from Season 1 returns alongside them, including Kazuki Okitsu as Akira Sato, Miyuki Sawashiro as Yoko, and Kana Hanazawa as Misaki Shimizu. Behind the scenes, Ryosuke Takahashi is back in the director's chair at Tezuka Productions, with Yuya Takashima handling series composition and Kyuma Oshita and Saki Hasegawa providing the character designs.

Season 2 was first announced in September 2026 with a teaser trailer confirming the January 2027 window and the returning staff; this week's update locks in the exact premiere date and introduces the arc's central threat. Yamaoka is a phantom of the underworld whose arrival pushes Akira's no-killing order into its most dangerous test yet — a hitman strong enough to threaten the man nobody can beat, at the exact moment he is forbidden from fighting the way he was trained to.

The new key visual shows Akira Sato in the foreground in a black jacket and backpack, with Yoko aiming a pistol on the right and a frightened Misaki Shimizu on the left. Looming above all three is Yamaoka, a gray-suited middle-aged man flanked by Azami and Koji Mizuno — the strongest enemy yet to creep toward the hitman who cannot kill.

What is The Fable anime about?

The Fable is based on Katsuhisa Minami's manga, which ran in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine from 2014 to 2019 across 22 volumes, followed by a sequel series, The Fable: The Second Contact. Kodansha USA publishes the original manga in English. The story follows a legendary hitman raised as a killing machine who is ordered by his boss to spend one year living as an ordinary civilian — without killing a single person.

How is the most talented genius assassin ever not supposed to kill anyone? Specially trained since he was a child to be a hitman, the invincible killing genius known as Fable can eradicate any opponent in six seconds or less. But then, one day, the boss of the organization suddenly orders him not to kill anyone for a year, and to live an ordinary life. Under the name Akira Sato, Fable takes on his assignment as a pro to live the life of a totally normal person. But in the background of this peaceful life lurks a foreboding atmosphere that will not let him be. Thus begins Fable's cool, humorous, and slightly eccentric one-year hiatus from killing.
