The Devil's Plan, Netflix's hit South Korean reality series, has officially been renewed for Season 2 today. The survival game show, which premiered on Netflix on September 26, 2023, featured players competing in games of strategy, wisdom, and wit. In the first season, 12 contestants hailed from various fields, including a science YouTuber, a travel YouTuber, a doctor, a US-based lawyer, a professional esports gamer, a professional Go player an anchor, a college student, a K-pop singer, a freelance announcer, a singer, and a couple of actors.

Following its premiere on Netflix, The Devil's Plan climbed to the top of Netflix's Top 10 TV series in South Korea, and it entered the Top 10 list in 23 countries. Moreover, it ranked number 3 in the Top 10 TV Shows (Non-English) on Netflix's global charts, showing the impact of South Korea's reality shows.

The first season showed contestants playing two sophisticated games each day over seven days they stayed together. The contestants were initially given one "Piece". A player with no Pieces is eliminated, and the Pieces can be spent on in-game benefits or traded between players. Players can acquire and lose Pieces in the two daily matches: the Main Match and the Prize Match. Players can also be sent to the show's prison after each Main Match. Participants can work together in the Prize Match to help add money to the final pot, which can total up to ₩500,000,000.

The contestants, armed with their unique motives and strategies, betray or collaborate each other to win and survive. They are also isolated without access to electronics such as smartphones, creating the ideal environment for them to build their own community with changing relationship dynamics. The devilish theme of the show's title matches the "social experiment" that this setup serves. Fans of the series are captivated by its intriguing plot development loaded with twists and turns.

The success of the show marked a pinnacle in producer Jeong Jong-yeon’s career, who already amassed a huge fanbase through his previous shows such as The Genius, Girls’ High School Mystery Class, and The Great Escape.
