After Jinshi finally notices Lakan's relationship with Maomao, the eunuch can’t help but worry about the Inner Palace of Li’s court lady. As Lakan shows great interest in Maomao, no one really knows about his intention to the poison maiden. So, in the teaser and preview stills for The Apothecary Diaries Episode 19, titled Coincidence or Necessity?, Jinshi shows his concern for Maomao as Lakan continuously wanders around.

The Apothecary Diaries Episode 19 teaser begins with Maomao writing something on her table while Lihaku holds a pipe that seems evidence of one of the mysterious deaths before. Maomao then draws three circles on the sand, while she’s next scene looking mad and in a hurry while screaming. A mysterious individual is revealed, followed by Maomao running and catching her breath.
A black shadow appears, seemingly attacking someone, while Maomao is left stunned, leaving her sitting on the ground. The teaser also gives a glimpse of Lakan with the Outer Court’s officers lined up. In the last scene, Maomao stands up, panting while watching the mysterious individual before her and trying to reach him.
Alternatively, the preview stills hint at the intense events happening in The Apothecary Diaries Episode 19. It shows Maomao looking all weary while her nose starts to bleed. It’s followed by her scene with Lihaku, who’s whispering something to her ear. The unknown individual is then revealed, surrounded by his people, as he walks in front of them. A shocked and afraid Jinshi takes the scene, and another exhausted Maomao appears while being towered by an imperial guard. For the last still, the anime has released the cute chibby versions of Jinshi and Maomao.

What to Expect from The Apothecary Diaries Episode 19
The Apothecary Diaries Episode 19 will show Jinshi worrying after learning Lakan is Maomao’s father. However, Maomao will be busy after hearing from Lihaku that the ritual utensils are missing after the commotion. She will then start to suspect that the series of strange happenings in the palace are all connected. Hence, she will talk to Jinshi and start reinvestigating these incidents.

Jinji is worried when he learns that tactician Rakan is Maomako's father. Meanwhile, Maomao hears from Li Bai that ritual utensils were stolen during the commotion the other day. In addition to Hao Ran, who died from alcohol, Mao Mao felt a strange connection between a series of incidents, including the death of a person in charge of ritual utensils, and a government official who collapsed due to seaweed poisoning, so she consulted Jinshi and begins a re-investigation of the incident.
The anime is based on the light novel of the same title written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino. The light novel has been serialized online since 2011, but it started to be published as a novel with a single volume in 2012 and as a light novel in 2014 after being acquired by Shufunotomo. It was then adapted into two manga series in 2017, published by Square Enix and Shogakukan. J-Novel Club licensed its digital release in North America, while Square Enix licensed its print version and manga illustrated by Nekokurage. In addition, Toho Animation Studio and OLM adapted it into anime, premiering in October 2023 and releasing 18 episodes so far.
