The Acolyte may not be every Star Wars fan's cup of tea, but there's no denying that the controversial Disney+ series introduced some pretty compelling characters to the Star Wars lore, including Manny Jacinto's mysterious Sith Lord Qimir, a character that apparently had ties to Darth Plagueis.
In a recent conversation with TV Insider, the star of Disney's Freakier Friday addressed the possibility of his character returning to a galaxy far, far away. Despite what a lot of people think about the project, Jacinto said he's proud of his work in The Acolyte and what they were able to accomplish, while also expressing his interest in a potential comeback. He explains:
I am always ready, and I would love to run it back if they’d have me. That was a role of a lifetime, and I’m incredibly proud of what we did in The Acolyte and with Oshamir, with that whole relationship
In The Acolyte, Qimir was initially presented as a smuggler and handler for Mae and was later revealed to be a powerful dark side Force user and former Jedi Padawan who serves as the mysterious Sith apprentice to Darth Plagueis.
This news comes on the heels of reports surrounding Lucasfilm's scrapped Ben Solo project called The Hunt for Ben Solo, which would've explored the origins of the Knights of Ren. According to Adam Driver himself, they pitched the idea to Lucasfilm with Steven Soderbergh attached to direct the project. Unfortunately, Disney wasn't down with the prospect. Speaking with AP, Driver said:
We presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea. They totally understood our angle and why we were doing it. We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that.
As for The Acolyte, there are several factors that led to its abrupt cancelation. To most fans, however, it was simply a convoluted story that challenged everything they thought they knew about Star Wars lore. The backlash was so intense that it left Disney with no choice but to pull the plug on a supposed Season 2, just after the first season reached its finale.
From what we know so far, it doesn't look like the House of Mouse is willing to reconsider The Acolyte's cancelation, but that's not to say that characters from the show won't get the chance to resurface and have a larger impact on the franchise's future. Unless, of course, they plan to retcon everything that transpired in the series.
The Acolyte is available to stream on Disney+.
