Star Wars: The Acolyte will introduce fans to many new characters who lived during the High Republic Era and were specially created for the upcoming Disney+ live-action series. Following Lucasfilm's announcement of the show’s development in 2020, it revealed its star-studded cast members in 2022, including a Hollywood A-list star, Carrie-Anne Moss. After over a year, the studio has finally revealed The Matrix’s star character, and it looks like she’s a force to be reckoned with.

Fans get their first glimpse of Moss’ character as Master Indara in the trailer of The Acolyte. Though nothing is much known about Indara, Lucasfilm described her as a Jedi Master who possesses “great physical strength and mental skill.” And true to the description, her incredible talent is seen in the preview. So, get to know more about Moss’ Star Wars character.

Who is Carrie-Anne Moss’ Master Indara in Star Wars: The Acolyte?

Details about Moss’ character as Master Indara in The Acolyte have remained scarce, but the trailer has given away what fans can expect from this Jedi Master. She embarks on a fight with Amanda Stenberg’s Mae and shows her calm yet tenacious demeanor as a great Force user. As the preview hints that the Sith is looking after Indara, it’s safe to assume that the Dark Side sees her as a formidable threat as a series of Jedi killings happens in the galaxy far, far away.

There are theories that Indara is a Bokken Jedi, a term Baylan Skoll used to describe Padawans who were taken on and trained after the fall of the Jedi Order. They were trained in the wild, not inside the Jedi Temple, like Ezra Bridger, Rey, and Luke Skywalker. So, if there’s one thing these Jedis have in common, it’s their ability to change the galaxy’s history, making them a powerful Force user who the Sith targets.

In an interview with Star Wars, showrunner Leslye Headland revealed that Moss did her own stunts in The Acolyte, hinting at the intense battles fans are about to see. By the looks of it, she will be involved in fighting the Dark Side, just like what the trailer has established.

Elsewhere, as she seems to work alone in the preview, she’s maybe a part of the Jedi Exploratory Corps or ExploroCorps, an elite group that works on the Outer Rim with only little contact with the Council. ExploroCorps Jedi members are known for being skilled at solving conflicts and are among the best and most experienced fighters in the Jedi Order.

Is Carrie-Anne Moss’ Master Indara part of the Star Wars canon?

Given The Acolyte features a time that is yet to be explored in live-action, this will be the first time fans are about to see Master Indara in the Star Wars universe. Her character is yet to be included in the canon, along with other characters from the series, since the show is meant to be a prequel to the prequels that will provide context for the Jedi Order seen in the prequel trilogy.

Master Indara and the other figures in the series will give new insight into the history of the Jedi. That said, as the show continues, her story will be eventually connected to the Star Wars’ three trilogies, making her part of the canon.
