The Thor franchise already made its mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by becoming the first film series to get four movies. But is it possible that another one is on the way? Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi discussed the possibility of a fifth film and even went as far as to tease who will face off against the God of Thunder in the future.
Thor: Love and Thunder was the fourth film in Thor's story and it appeared to give the God of Thunder a satisfying conclusion. On the other hand, the introduction of Love and her great power also suggested that she could return in the MCU in the future.
So will we get to see Thor 5? Taika Waititi discussed another potential sequel in the Titan book Thor: Love and Thunder The Official Movie Special (via Screenrant). In the book, Waititi confirmed that the God of Thunder would need to face a villain who is more powerful than his own sister.
"What is left to do to him? It's got to be something that feels like it's carrying on with the evolution of the character, but still in a very fun way and still giving him things to come up against that feel like they're building on the obstacles that he has to overcome," Waititi said. "I don't think we can have a villain that's weaker than Hela. I feel like we need to step up from there and add a villain that's somehow more formidable."
Is Thor 5 officially confirmed by Marvel Studios?
It's an interesting tease that already has some fans excited about Thor 5. However, it is also important to remember that Marvel Studios has not yet confirmed whether there will be a fifth Thor film. In addition to that, Chris Hemsworth is expected to take a hiatus from acting to focus on his health. Nevertheless, we'll be waiting for updates on a possible sequel.
Chris Hemsworth debuted as Thor Odinsson in 2011's Thor before returning for Thor: The Dark World two years later. He would play the God of Thunder in seven more films including the four Avengers films. Hemsworth is currently set to appear as the mysterious main villain in the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa which is scheduled to premiere on May 24, 2024.
