Stranger Things Season 5 has yet to start its production due to the ongoing writers’ strike, which means fans will not see it anytime soon. However, thanks to David Harbour, who plays the role of Jim Hopper, he has constantly teased what will happen in the much-awaited final season. And the latest, he hints that the finale will be very “moving.”
Stranger Things is a science fiction TV series created by the Duffer Brothers. Its first season was released on Netflix in July 2016 and has become a fan-favorite since. Now that the story revolving around the residents of the fictional town of Hawkins, India, will come to an end, fans should prepare for what Harbour says is a heart-rending ending.
In an interview with Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast before the strike began, the Hellboy star revealed that though he hadn’t read the final episode’s script yet, he knew where they “net out.” “It’s very, very moving,” he teased. "That is the term I will use. That is, the one word I will use is 'moving.'"
Harbour continued that the scripts were already sent to them before the strike began, and he had no words but “terrific,” praising the Duffer brothers for outdoing themselves. “They're terrific, as per usual. They continue to outdo themselves, these currently-on-strikes writers, called the Duffer brothers,” he said.

How will Stranger Things Season 5 begin?
Harbour has given several major updates about Stranger Things Season 5. Aside from its finale, he also hinted at how the new season would begin. And by the looks of it, it will exactly pick up where the previous season left off.
“You gotta imagine where it starts, after where Season 4 ended, you watch us on that hill looking at the ash and the smoke, fires,” he revealed. “And we're gonna start somewhere after that, so you gotta imagine that the world is a different place.”
Though it may take some time before the cameras start rolling for the final season, the actor revealed he is already excited to return to the set and wrap up the series in a “bold, amazing way.” He even teased that the show would pay off the original characters, from Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) to Joyce (Winona Ryder) and the rest of the gang.
“I'm excited to really swing with this character because you know that they're gonna pay off these O.G. characters -- Eleven, Hopper, Joyce, Will, Mike,” he continued. “They're gonna pay them off in big ways because they've lived with you for the past eight years.”
Stranger Things Season 5 Production
The Stranger Things Season 5 production was supposed to begin in June this year. However, the writers’ and actors’ strikes caused it to stop.
From there, series creators Matt and Ross Duffer, who also serve as the series’ executive producers and showrunners, decided to postpone the new season’s production and released an official statement on X (formerly Twitter) through the Strager Writers account. The writers’ strike began in May 2023 and has been continuing until today.
The series’ production may not begin until a resolution has been reached. So even if Stranger Things Season 5 starts shooting later this year, it may not hit the small screens until 2025, considering the fourth season took over a year before it was released.
