After being sidelined in the previous season, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) is back to take center stage again in Stranger Things Season 5. The series co-creator Ross Duffer has confirmed that the final season will mostly focus on Will, who will probably tie the whole series together after starting it in the first season.
Premiering in July 2016 on Netflix, Stranger Things started with the disappearance of Will and the introduction of a mysterious but powerful character Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown). From there, his friends, Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), including Eleven, started an epic journey to find him in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, leading them to the Upside Down, an alternate dimension in parallel to the human world. The succeeding seasons saw Will trying hard to find his place among his friends and family, and now he’s back with an important storyline in Stranger Things Season 5.
"Will really takes center stage again in 5," Ross told Variety. "This emotional arc for him is what we feel is going to hopefully tie the whole series together.”
Apart from his sexuality, the final season will also see Will becoming a young man after being the young, introverted guy who has always been protected after being abducted and trapped in the Upside Down. “Part of his journey, it's not just sexuality -- it's Will coming into his own as a young man,” Ross added.

The Duffer Brothers Ask Noah Schnapp Not to Be Like Tom Holland
Considering Schnapp will play a major role in Stranger Things Season 5, the Duffer Brothers have already sent him the first three scripts for the final season but reminded him not to be like Tom Holland. Holland subtly spoiled a major moment in Spider-Man: No Way Home during an interview even before the movie was released. However, just like Holland, Schnapp couldn’t stop himself.
Anyhow, Schnapp didn’t reveal anything major about the final season. He just announced receiving the Stranger Things Season 5 scripts in a video.
When will Stranger Things Season 5 be released?
Schnapp was supposed to start filming Stranger Things Season 5 this summer, but the writers’ strike affected the production. Hence, the show’s return will take longer than usual, as the filming is now on hold.
“Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike,” the Duffer Brothers said in a joint statement on Twitter. “We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then -- over and out.”
Despite the delay, fans will patiently wait for Stranger Things Season 5's release. With the showdown between Eleven and Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), the finale will surely be epic.
