Entertainment Weekly has unveiled new details about Stranger Things: Flight of Icarus, the prequel novel penned by Caitlin Schneiderhan, a member of the show's creative team. The book, which was first announced in April 2023, unfolds its narrative two years before the events of Stranger Things Season 4, where actor Joseph Quinn first introduced us to the high school metalhead and Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast. In addition to that, the outlet offers an excerpt from the novel which reveals Eddie's tragic past.
Flight of Icarus introduces readers to Paige, a record producer, who presents Eddie and his band Corroded Coffin with the chance to make their rock & roll dreams come true. The excerpt transports us to Eddie's first experience in a recording studio, where he shares a touching story about his late mother, who instilled his passion for music.
Growing up in Memphis, she met Eddie's father, and although he turned out to be a schemer, their relocation to Hawkins, Indiana, was significant. While his dad taught him to play the guitar, it was his mom who taught him to love music by sharing the records she cherished, which she used to play during their long nine-hour drives from Memphis. Tragically, she fell ill and passed away when Eddie was just six years old, leaving a profound impact on his life and love for music.
The new Stranger Things novel is the perfect read for any fan who has been desperate to learn more about Eddie after the character's debut in Season 4. Although the narrative takes place long before Eddie's trip to the Upside Down, there is a haunting tone to the book that somehow confirms a looming presence over Hawkins.
