Stranger Things Season 5 is now shaping up after the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) strike ended following reaching a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents streamers and studios. However, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) is still on strike, and Stranger Things’ writers’ room wishes the studios to have a fair deal with the union by posting a funny first look at Steve Harrington for the upcoming Stranger Things Season 5.
The hit Netflix series’ production was supposed to start in June, but the writers’ and actors’ strikes happened, putting all the TV and movie productions to a standstill. The show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, even announced they couldn’t continue the final season’s filming until the writers’ strike ended. True enough, after WGA and AMPTP reached a deal, the show’s writers announced their return.
And now, they shared a preview of Steve, played by Joe Keery, on X (formerly Twitter). But fans should keep their expectations low for this still, as it only features an animated previsualization of the character. The cameras haven’t officially started rolling yet, so they use a GIF, which shows Steve turning to look at the camera and raising his eyebrow. The writers even warned that if the studios failed to make a fair deal with SAG-AFTRA soon, the series’ fifth season would be animated.
As many thought the preview was just nothing and was only made for that particular post, the writers cleared that it was a pre-vis for a scene in Stranger Things Season 5 Episode 1. So, technically, it was the first look at the last and final season. “We told Joe he has to perform it EXACTLY like this,” they said.

Stranger Things Season 5 Production Update
The writers have finally resumed working 148 days after the WGA strike ended. That said, the Strangers Things’ writers are now back at work. There are rumors that Netflix prioritizes writing the final season's scripts, especially since its stars are growing older. Hence, once SAG-AFTRA has also struck a fair deal with AMPTP, the filming may begin as soon as possible.
However, the show may still see some serious delay and may not be out until 2025. So, hopefully, the actors’ strike will end soon, so Stranger Things Season 5 can finally see the light of day.
