Star Wars: The Mandalorian Actor Brendan Wayne Questions The Movie Adaptation

Brendan Wayne fears that if Star Wars: The Mandalorian leaves Disney+, it may affect the streamer's performance.

Lucasfilm and Disney+ released the first season of The Mandalorian to great success. This live-action series, a first from the Star Wars universe, premiered on the same day Disney+ launched in the US, becoming the streamer’s flagship show. While fans eagerly await the fourth season, Lucasfilm surprised everyone with the announcement of its movie adaptation, Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu. This decision, however, has left the series’ star, Brendan Wayne, questioning why they would opt for a movie instead of The Mandalorian Season 4.

In a recent interview with The Chatooine Show, a popular Star Wars podcast, Wayne expressed his confusion over the decision to make a movie. He questioned why they would potentially "throw away" The Mandalorian, a show that has been instrumental in Disney+'s success, if it were to abandon the streaming platform. He highlighted the series’ triumph in the service, suggesting that its performance could be at risk by moving to the big screen.

There's a reason The Mandalorian premiered when Disney+ opened up, and it wasn't because we had this incredible library that everybody wants to subscribe to. It's because you had a show that was gonna bring a character alive that we've all dreamed of since we watched Star Wars , which was a Boba Fett-like character.

It can’t be denied that Wayne has a point, as the anticipation for The Mandalorian Season 4 remains high a year after the third season ended. But since then, Disney+ has yet to officially confirm the show’s return, though many claim it’s still a go.

Brendan Wayne Gives an Update about Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu

The Mandalorian & Grogu will be the first Star Wars movie that will be seen on the big screen after the 2019 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Though nothing is known about this project yet, and it remains to be seen if it will replace The Mandalorian Season 4, Wayne gives an exciting new update about it.

In the same interview, the actor joked that he knew everything about the movie and that Lucasfilm would only give it a green light with a script. He stressed that director Jon Favreau would never do it unprepared, knowing his dedication to the franchise.

Jon loves and honors everything he does, but specifically Star Wars , because for him, it means something beyond this moment. He would never do something half-assed. It matters too much to him. And [Dave] Filoni would never let it happen.

Wayne also confirmed that The Mandalorian & Grogu would start its production in June just like he heard in the news. He also said that Favreau confirmed it would begin filming in the said month.

Will there be Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 4?

A lot has been said about The Mandalorian Season 4, with Favreau even confirming to BFMTV Inside that its scripts were already done even before the third season concluded. However, nothing has been established since its production was halted due to the Hollywood strikes, and the filming was delayed indefinitely.

However, Deadline previously claimed that the new season is still in development along with The Mandalorian & Grogu, confirming the show’s return. Reliable Star Wars scoopers Bespin Bulletin and Making Star Wars also made the same claim. They even asserted that the fourth season would be released before the film, as the movie would serve as the series finale.

The Mandalorian & Grogu would kickstart the new era of Star Wars movies, so it’s believed to be released on May 22, 2026. As it will take two more years before this film hits the big screen, so there's still time to develop The Mandalorian Season 4. As Lucasfilm and Disney+ have yet to cancel this show, there’s still hope for the series to continue.
