The Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures is going to introduce some characters from the fan-favorite High Republic books. So, the cast members will get to interact with the characters of those books and get to dive deeper as the story of the Disney+ show progresses.
During an interview with IGN, the writer of Star Wars: The High Republic, Cavan Scott along with the Senior Vice President, Franchise Content and Strategy of Lucasfilm James Waugh discussed the Young Jedi Adventures. They discussed the show’s upcoming collaborations with some other characters from the popular Phase I High Republic books.
The episode called Charhound Chase will follow the series’ protagonist Kai Brightstar as he meets Jedi Master Loden Greatstorm, Padawan Bell Zettifar, and their charhound companion Ember. Kai is supposed to look for Ember after she has disappeared.
The second part of the same episode called Stuck in the Muck will follow Kai and his companions Nash, Lys, and Nubs as they visit the Republic space station called Starlight Beacon. This is where the group gets the chance to meet Estala Maru, the Jedi head of operations. Regarding the decision to bring Bell and Loden into the animated series, Scott said:
Scott also teased that Loden and Kai's teacher Zia Zanna have been longtime friends and also teased that Bell will help Kai in such a way that will let him "be a bit of a master and to teach them some lessons to the younger Youngling, and they go off and search for Ember together." Coming over to Estala’s story, Scott always considered the Kessurian Jedi to be "someone who had a special relationship with Padawans and Youngling, but just because of the type of story we would tell, we never really had space to show that element of it, to show that side of him." He further claimed that introducing him in Young Jedi Adventures will help the cartoon explore the "day-to-day life on Starlight.”
According to this, this would help fit that into the entire characterization of Estala from Scott’s Phase I High Republic books. Aside from Young Jedi Adventures, the latest Star Wars Jedi: Survivor video game also featured several appearances from the characters of the High Republic era, such as former Jedi antagonist Dagan Gera.
Nonetheless, as compared to Zettifar and Greatstorm, Gera was actually created only for the game, and hasn’t yet been tied to the ongoing High Republic media storyline. On the other hand, the upcoming Disney+ series The Acolyte is set to feature actor Rebecca Henderson as Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh. This would be her very first appearance as a High Republic character in a live-action series.
