Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3 has officially begun, with three episodes now available to stream on Disney+. As the final season kickstarts after Omega’s abduction by the Imperial scientists, Episode 3, Shadows of Tantiss, makes a big reveal about the young clone and Dr. Hemlock’s Project Necromancer. But as this isn’t the first time the said project is mentioned, it looks like The Mandalorian Season 3 has already hinted at how things will play out for the animated series' ending.
Warning: Spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.
Project Necromancer was first mentioned during the Imperial Remnant’s Shadow Council meeting in The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 7, The Spies. At the time, Captain Pellaeon claimed Thrawn’s return would give Hux the ample time he needed to complete the project, meaning it wasn’t finished yet. For starters, The Mandalorian took place about 30 years after The Bad Batch.
That said, though Dr. Hemlock learned from Emerie that Omega’s blood sample would be the key to producing the M-count they were looking for, the Galactic Empire’s Chief Scientist failed to finish the project and use Omega’s DNA. This also seemed to suggest that Dr. Hemlock didn’t successfully capture Omega after her escape with Crosshair despite his vow to use all the Imperial sources to find her.
So, amid fans’ fears about Omega’s fate, The Mandalorian’s revelation about Project Necromancer appears to confirm her safety. Though nothing is definite yet, and The Bad Batch Season 3 still has 13 episodes to release, the series may likely end with Omega completely escaping the Empire’s threat and avoiding the tragic fate it set for her.
What is Omega’s connection to Project Necromancer in The Bad Batch Season 3?
In The Bad Batch Season 3, Emperor Palpatine sees Project Necromancer as a move to “secure the future” of the Galactic Empire. However, it looks like it’s his contingency plan to avoid his death and continue his reign. In the series, the project appears to be an experiment to replicate M-counts in cloned organisms.
As Emerie learns Omega’s blood sample has supported a successful “M-count transfer,” it means her genetics can help produce clones that share an M-count with their donor. Hence, she’s the key to supporting Project Necromancer and making it successful.
