Lucasfilm is now gearing up for the upcoming release of its new series, Star Wars: The Acolyte. With several promotions here and there, the anticipation is incredibly growing. However, less than two months before the show finally premieres, reliable insider Jeff Sneider reveals a new addition to its star-studded cast: David Harewood.

On Sneider’s The Hot Mic podcast with John Rocha, the film critic revealed that Harewood would play a smaller role in The Acolyte. However, he didn’t reveal if the Supergirl star would be part of the light or dark side or just a character who would make a cameo.

The British actor is best known for his role as J'onn J'onzz / Martian Manhunter and Hank Henshaw / Cyborg Superman in CW’s Arrowverse, the live-action adaptation of DC Comics. He particularly played a recurring role in Supergirl (2015-2021). The 58-year-old also appeared as CIA Counterterrorism Director David Estes in Homeland (2011-2012) and is the current president of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

What role David Harewood may play in Star Wars: The Acolyte?

With his alleged smaller role, it’s hard to predict what character Harewood will play in The Acolyte. His two roles, Martian Manhunter and Cyborg Superman, in Supergirl prove that he can play either a hero or a villain. However, there are still several theories on who he could be.

Harewood can be the leader of the High Republic’s Jedi Council. He can also be part of Mother Aniseya’s coven, which is seen in the series’ trailer. But being an important actor like him, there’s a possibility that he may portray the long-rumored Darth Plagueis, Darth Sidious’ Sith Master. But this may only happen if Lucasfilm ignores the non-canon comic book series Star Wars: Legends, where Plagueis was identified as a humanoid species called Muuns.

What is Star Wars: The Acolyte about?

The Acolyte will follow the story of Jedi Master Sol, who will go on a journey to find the culprit behind the sinister Jedi killings in the Galaxy. He will then encounter a dangerous warrior from his past, Mae, while fulfilling his mission. But despite their conflict, they will work together to find the mysterious murderer. The two will find themselves on a dangerous path and learn of the evil forces far more threatening than they initially thought.

You can read the synopsis below:

In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….
