The future of Star Wars is set to shine with the slate of its new projects. Among them, Star Wars: The Acolyte stands out as the first live-action Star Wars show to delve into the High Republic era. This unique premise offers a fresh mythology, delving into the untold backstory of the Jedi Order. If this venture succeeds, it could herald a new era for the franchise, potentially reshaping the entire epic space opera.
While The Acolyte is the second series set in the High Republic era, following Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, it’s the first live-action show to chronicle the end of the Jedi Order's peak. It takes a more mature approach, distinct from the animated series aimed at younger viewers, and is set to make its mark in Star Wars history, much like Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
The Mandalorian made history by opening a whole new era in the Star Wars universe, set during the New Republic era. The show has spawned several series and movies that are part of what’s now called Mandoverse, like Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, Star Wars: Ahsoka, and The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, among others. That said, as The Acolyte will open up a new story, it’s presumed to do the same.
Sure, Young Jedi Adventures is also set during the High Republic era, but it happened earlier than The Acolyte, centering on the peak years of the said period. As the latter focuses on the end of that point in history, it will feature a time when the High Republic era is coming to a close. Hence, it will lay the groundwork for the beginning of the end of the Republic and Jedi Order’s golden age, opening the door for a number of new stories and timelines like The Mandalorian.
