Star Wars is about to return to the big screen with The Mandalorian and Grogu. Din Djarin and his adopted child, Grogu, will continue their journey in cinemas after The Mandalorian Season 3. Though details about the film remain scarce, one major update excites fans. Sigourney Weaver, known for her roles in sci-fi and horror movies, confirms her appearance in the upcoming Star Wars movie, making her much-awaited debut in the galaxy far, far away.
In an interview with Deadline, Weaver talked about her prolific career, including her roles in several iconic sci-fi franchises. From Alien to Avatar, the veteran actress added Star Wars to the list after revealing the next movie she’s about to film.
“I’m playing a role in The Mandalorian and Grogu [which will be directed by Jon Favreau],” she said.
The 74-year-old star revealed she has already met Grogu in person, and she’s about to start the movie’s production before she flies to London for The Tempest before the year ends. As this will complete the major sci-fi franchises that she has been a part of, Weaver also expresses her excitement.
“I’m looking forward to it,” she continued. “I can’t say much about it right now, but it’s fun to bounce between all these different universes.”
This news comes after reports emerged that Weaver was in talks to play a major role in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Directed by Favreau, who will also produce the film alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni, production is said to be ongoing. So far, Weaver’s role in the movie is yet to be revealed.
Pedro Pascal Will Reprise His Role as Din Djarin in Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu
Though many expect Pedro Pascal to reprise his role as Din in The Mandalorian and Grogu, his busy schedule will allegedly get in the way. Rumors suggest that scheduling conflicts kept him from wearing his Mandalorian suit for most of The Mandalorian Season 1, and these claims have persisted with each new installment. With several projects to his name, including Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps, there are assumptions that another actor may play his part in the Star Wars movie. Thankfully, Disney has shot down these claims, confirming that Pascal will return as the fan-favorite Mando.
In summarizing The Walt Disney Company’s announcements at the recent D23 2024, it was revealed that Pascal would star in The Mandalorian and Grogu. However, Pascal was the only cast member mentioned, with the other names in the article being those of the director and producers.
It’s hard to imagine The Mandalorian and Grogu without Pascal. While other actors have portrayed Din due to Pascal’s limited availability, it isn’t easy to replace a star who is already well-known for the role. As for Weaver, her role in the upcoming movie is a welcome addition to the ever-growing Star Wars universe. She’s considered a legend in the sci-fi genre and is a perfect fit for the franchise.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is slated to release in theaters on May 22, 2026.
