There is little doubt that people are already expecting to see the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn in Ahsoka Episode 5. But how exactly will the villain be brought back in the Star Wars series? A new theory might shed light on how Thrawn will reappear after a long absence and it might have something to do with an interesting detail found in Star Wars Rebels.
In the climactic finale of Star Wars Rebels' fourth season, both Thrawn and Ezra Bridger disappeared into hyperspace when a group of purrgil commandeered the ship they were aboard, carrying them to an unknown destination. However, the episode of the animated show also had a clue as to how they would be brought back, and it was in plain sight.
As a TikTok video points out, the remains of the Jedi Temple used by Ezra to access the mystical World Between Worlds had been relocated from the planet Lothal to Thrawn's vessel. That's exactly the same ship where both the Imperial officer and Ezra were on when they vanished.
It's an astute observation considering that Thrawn was interested in the culture of people around the galaxy and he was undoubtedly curious about the Jedi Temple. However, Thrawn inadvertently ensured that he would manage to return by bringing the temple along with him. The only question left here is whether a Jedi (or the Nightsisters' magic) will find a way to bring Thrawn back.
Not surprisingly, the theory has ignited speculation among fans, hinting at a potentially intertwined fate for Thrawn and Ezra, with the enigmatic World Between Worlds as a pivotal backdrop for their reappearance in the Star Wars narrative. Will Ahsoka be the one to find Ezra (and by extension, Thrawn) in the mystical plane? Or will Morgan Elsbeth find them first? Needless to say, we can't wait to find out this Tuesday.
Ahsoka Episode 5 is set to premiere on Disney+ on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. The fifth episode, which is written and directed by Dave Filoni, will also get a limited theatrical release on the same day.
