Star Wars: Visions has long stood out as one of the most creatively free entries in the franchise, giving international animators the chance to tell unique stories set in the galaxy far, far away. The anthology series first arrived in 2021 and quickly built a reputation for bold visual styles and fresh takes on familiar themes. Lucasfilm later announced that Star Wars: Visions would be getting its first-ever standalone spin-off series with The Ninth Jedi, expanding one of the most popular stories from the original shorts into a full series of its own.

The new series, titled Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi, follows the story of Kara and her allies as they work to rebuild the Jedi Order in a galaxy long after its traditional disappearance. Collider spoke with directors Kenji Kamiyama and Shunsuke Tada along with producer Hitoshi Itô about the project’s future. Both directors expressed a clear desire to continue the story, with Kamiyama stating they do not want it to end here and Tada adding that they all hope for the characters’ journey to be continued.

Producer Hitoshi Itô addressed the open-ended nature of the story when discussing possible continuations, explaining that “we have a lot of different possibilities. I know a lot of fans will question so many things, and fans love to see more, and we all love to keep going, but I'm looking forward to seeing how fans react.”

Hitoshi Itô elaborated on the careful planning that went into the later episodes of Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi. He explained that the team took considerable time shaping the scenario for Episodes 7 and 8, working closely with Lucasfilm to explore multiple narrative paths. Itô noted that the production scale expanded during the process and that many different possibilities remain open depending on how the series is received.

The expansion of The Ninth Jedi into its own series marks a significant moment for the Star Wars: Visions anthology. What began as a collection of short films has now produced a self-contained narrative with the potential for further seasons. The creative team’s comments suggest they approached the ending with intentional flexibility, leaving room for additional stories about Kara and the emerging new Jedi while still delivering a complete arc in the initial run.
